Why Losing My Facebook Account Was the Best Thing That Happened to My Business

Here’s something most digital entrepreneurs won’t say out loud:

"Losing access to Facebook was actually one of the best things that could’ve happened to me—and to my business."

No panic. No spiraling. Just a quiet click of clarity.

When my Facebook account was suspended on May 31st, I didn’t melt down. I didn’t freak out. I didn’t even get frustrated. Why?

Because I had already made the decision to build my business in a way that didn’t rely on one single platform to survive.

And, here, on July 11th, I still don't have access, and I have no idea if I ever will again.

Now this is interesting...

Firstly, most people panicked for me when they found out. I received more apologies, and "I'm so sorry to hear that,"' messages than I could have anticipated. I mean... I think if I lost a loved one I'd have had fewer sympathies. I was a bit gobsmacked.

Secondly, in contradiction to the sympathies about my "loss," so many people told me that they envied that my account got suspended, and kinda hoped they'd lose theirs too.

Let's unpack it...

  • The idea of the break from socials sounds appealing. But a social media cleanse is a lot different from being a social media outcast
  • Very few people have the foundations in place to prevent revenue loss if they lost access to their main social media outlet

THIS is what it looks like when I try to access Facebook:

I want you to take a moment to imagine that your account is suspended and those are what YOUR screens look like. Really imagine it. No access. Totally cut off.

Now, BE HONEST...

  • how does it feel?
  • if you sell through FB, and you couldn't, what would you do?
  • if you have memories, conversations with loved ones, stored videos or photos, etc. that you don't have elsewhere, how would you feel if you *might* never get to access them again?

If your shoulders tensed up, your chest got tight, or you got a knot in your stomach, then you're not alone: that's how MOST people would feel.

Truthfully, yes, I do hope to get access back. I want all the memories. I want the friend connections and our chat histories. I want the photo albums. I want the 17 years of memories I built. On the business end, yes, it would make things easier to access ans save a bit of time compared to starting over, but thankfully, there's no revenue dip.

So let's take a look at the foundations I put in place that support entrepreneurs no-matter-what obstacles, challenges, or hurdles may come our way (so if you lose yours, you won't be hindered):

1. I Had Already Built My Foundation

I’ve seen what happens when entrepreneurs build on rented land: one algorithm shift, one glitch, one lockout… and everything stops.

That’s never how I wanted to run my business.

So instead, I built:

  • A thriving email list

  • A strong content ecosystem on my blog and website

  • Offers and systems designed to run with or without Facebook

So when access was removed, it didn’t feel like a crisis. It felt like a confirmation: I was doing business the right way.

2. I Gained Time, Energy, and Mental Space

Social media can be an incredible tool, but it’s also a time suck.

Without Facebook notifications buzzing and posts to manage on my well established profile, and simply posting content on my husband's profile (the content library which was saved OFF Facebook, FYI), I had more space to focus on deep work.
I created more. I strategized more. I rested more.

My business didn’t skip a beat; because I wasn’t scrambling to chase visibility. I was simply continuing what I’d already set up.

And in the process, I realized how good it felt to not be “on” 24/7.

It also felt great not getting sucked into doom-scrolling. I didn't realize just how much low-level stress and anxiety my newsfeed was causing me until I lost it.

3. I Reaffirmed the Power of My Email List

If you’re not building your list, you’re building your business on quicksand.

When Facebook went quiet, my email list didn’t.

People still read my emails.
Still clicked.
Still bought.

Ironically, the Infinite Bundle launched the day after I lost my Facebook profile, and I gained 900+ new e-mail subscribers in 9 days. It was like the Universe was saying, "You're doing everything right."

Because I’d spent the time building real relationships with the people who chose to be on that list. No algorithm. No gatekeeper. Just me, showing up consistently in their inbox.

That kind of direct access is priceless—and completely in your control.

4. It Reminded Me That I’m Not My Platform

I’ve seen a lot of entrepreneurs attach their worth, success, and reach to a social media platform. I get it. But that’s not the game I’m playing anymore.

Losing access to Facebook reminded me that my business is bigger than an app.

I am still the brand. Still the message. Still the offer.
And I can show up powerfully—on any platform, or without one.

5. I Got Even More Strategic

Rather than scrambling, I got intentional.

I focused on:

  • Diversifying my marketing, putting energy into my blog, and nurturing & growing my list even more

  • Launching my own off-socials community (which you can come join for free)
  • Strengthening partnerships

  • Refining my automations

  • Building visibility on my own terms

  • Focusing on my investment portfolio
  • I put attention into other socials that I hardly used before losing Facebook

I don’t rely on any single channel to generate leads or revenue. That’s not just smart business—it’s true freedom.

Losing Facebook access wasn’t a setback. It was a reset.

It gave me space.
It gave me perspective.
It gave me proof that the long game works.

And it reminded me that when you build your business like a business—not a popularity contest—you’re never really at risk.

So if you’ve been pouring all your energy into one platform, this is your sign to expand.
Nurture your list.
Create content you own.
Build a brand that lasts; whether Facebook is in the picture or not.

Because resilience isn’t built in moments of calm; it’s built in how you respond when things shift.

And I’m ready for anything.
