Allistar Banks is a multi-genre author of several books ranging from children to young adult fiction. Her books have been recognized on The Infinite Power of You Book Club and several multimedia platforms. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications from Lander University. A McCormick, SC native, she is a lover of southern cuisine, the mountains, local art, and history.

What kind of work do you do?

I write children’s and young adult books.

What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?

What inspired me to get started as an entrepreneur was my mother had a dream about me owning my own bookstore and I also did story time with the children and I wore a different hat for each story I read to the kids. It goes further back from my mothers dream, I always loved and enjoyed English class when I was in school and writing gave me an outlet to express my authentic self and fully step into what God has purposed for my life. Writing has also helped me coped with childhood trauma of my parenting divorcing, my brother passing away at a young age, and feeling rejected and abandoned from a group of people I desired to fit into when I was a child.

What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?

Understanding my target niche

Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?

Yes. There was a time I thought about giving up but at the end of the day when I’m having a bad day writing always gives me comfort and healing.

What have you learned since beginning?

I have learned to be patient and create a message that resonates for my audiences.

What’s the best advice you’ve received?

Life is all about managing expectations—most of all your own.

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

I would start out by focusing on identifying a strong idea based on market needs and your skills, build a strong business plan, and network effectively.

What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?

Being featured in the SC Palmetto State Literacy Association.

Networking with people that are interested in your content and being able to cross promote one another’s products and services.

Focusing on the Quantity of Likes and Follows, Rather Than the Quality

Is there something you wish everyone knew?

I am a huge animal lover.

What’s coming up for you in the next few months?

I am releasing a book I’ve co-authored called The Heart of A Mother Stories of Love, Strength, and Sacrifice Across Generations May 2025.

What has being successful taught you?

Success is intentional, it doesn’t happen by accident.

What are some fun facts about you?

I have met President Jimmy Carter when I was in the 5th grade when I wrote a paper on him.
