The Lion’s Gate Portal: Why It Matters for Manifestation and How to Work With It

The Lion’s Gate Portal is now open!
Every year around this time we hear it. Our newsfeeds and our inboxes become flooded with information and offers on why Lion’s Gate Portal is such a powerful time for manifestation. We’re told it’s a perfect time to renew your commitment to your goals, boost your manifestation, and embrace your inner power. Some people swear by it. Others dismiss it completely.
The Lion’s Gate Portal occurs yearly from late July to mid-August, supposedly peaking on August 8 (8/8). At this time, the sun in the sign of Leo (thus the lion) aligns with the star Sirius. Combining the courage, authenticity, and creativity of Leo, the divine wisdom and transformation associated with Sirius, and the infinite abundance connected to the number 8, this symbolic portal has come to be known as a time to step into your inner power for manifestation.
Because of this, many people choose this as a time to set or renew their intentions for the year, journal about their goals, meditation on their manifestations, and so much more.
The Lion’s Gate Portal is a relatively “new” event, having grown in popularity throughout the 2010’s and becoming more mainstream in the 2020’s. However, while the name Lion’s Gate may be new, its origin dates back thousands of years to ancient Egypt.
The star Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky also called the Dog Star, was significant in ancient Egyptian culture dating back to 3,000 BCE, as its rising coincided with the annual flooding of the Nile, which was the lifeblood of their civilization. Because of this the rising of Sirius became associated with renewal, abundance, and the goddess Isis, who herself symbolized power, creation, and healing. Not long after the time of the ancient Egyptians, the constellation Leo was included in early forms of astrology by the Babylonians around 1,000 BCE. This constellation was associated with courage and creativity. With this history, it isn’t surprising that this time of year came to represent a time of rebirth, renewal, and creation, which are the basis of all manifestation.
However, the date August 8 is newer. August did not become the eighth month of the year until the creation of the Roman calendar in approximately 100 BCE. Even more importantly, the digit 8 was not created until hundreds of years later, and the infinity symbol which many attribute the 8’s association with abundance to, was not created until 1655 CE. This doesn’t make this tradition less meaningful. It simply helps us understand the evolution of this seemingly new event.
This is why many, myself included, view Lion’s Gate Portal as a more symbolic event than one based on history, science, or even astrology.
However, I also know the strength of collective belief, manifestation, and vibration, and how events such as this can create powerful energetic shifts regardless of the history or astronomical alignment involved. With more and more people aware of and honoring the perceived power of 8/8, the collective vibration of our society cannot help but be affected because we are all connected. This is why setting new goals at New Year’s is not only effective, but a cultural norm.
Whether you believe in the power of the Lion’s Gate Portal or not, now is a great time to revisit your goals and reignite the actions you are taking toward them. So often, people set their goals around the New Year, but by February or March, they’ve been put on the back burner. Then November rolls around and suddenly they realize their goals have been forgotten.
So rather than debate history and the placement of the stars, or wait until the end of the year to scramble to reach your goals, I invite you to lean into this collective energy shift to raise our vibration and increase our inner power together. (Learn more here)

It knows how to deal with it. But it doesn’t know the new path we long for. It perceives it as dangerous because it’s new.
