Mindset work is powerful…but if you’ve ever wondered why it hasn’t fully worked for you, this is why: most mindset work is based on working with your conscious mind. It’s the part of your mind that is responsible for logic and getting stuff done, but it also only makes up about 5-10% of your mind power. The subconscious mind makes up the other 90-95%. It is this powerful part of the mind that is primarily responsible for driving the results you see in your business and every other part of your life.
In today’s post, I’ll share with you why hypnosis is the secret weapon spiritual entrepreneurs have been looking for to create the success they desire.
The Role of Your Subconscious Mind in Business
For the 10+ years I’ve been in the online entrepreneurial space, and probably longer, there has been an ongoing debate on which is more important to your business success: Mindset Work or Strategy? The fact is they both matter, and both are heavily informed by your subconscious mind, whether you are aware of it or not. While your conscious mind is responsible for your intentional thoughts and action (in other words, your mindset and your strategy), these thoughts and actions are almost entirely determined by what’s going on beneath the surface, in your subconscious mind, particularly your beliefs, emotions, and intuition. These are all rooted in your subconscious mind.
The catch is that our thoughts and actions are conscious once we are aware of them, so we focus on this “doing” part of our mind to accomplish our goals. But before any thoughts or actions become intentional, they may have lingered in the subconscious for weeks, months, or even years. We are still only aware of a small fraction of what’s going on in our subconscious mind and how it may be holding us back without us realizing it.
Our subconscious programming affects our ability to manifest a successful business in countless ways. Three of the most common among these are feelings of unworthiness, fear of success, and lack of self-trust.
Unworthiness
If your subconscious mind does not believe you are worthy of accomplishing your goals, no matter how lofty or commonplace, it will sabotage your manifestation efforts at every turn. Consciously, you may be telling yourself “I’m worthy of success!!” but until your subconscious mind believes it, these affirmations are just empty words. Subconscious sabotage due to feelings of unworthiness can present itself as the belief that you need more experience before you can launch a new program, overlooking opportunities for advancement because you don’t believe you’re qualified enough, or procrastination, perfectionism, and lack of motivation, just to name a few.
Fear of Success
The subconscious mind’s main function is to keep us alive. It controls our autonomic nervous system to keep us breathing and to keep our blood flowing. It alerts us when something is wrong, like when you’re daydreaming while driving and suddenly snap back to awareness just before you swerve into another lane. It creates patterns and habits for us to follow that it knows we can survive, because we’ve survived them in the past, keeping us in our “comfort zone.” This often leads to a subconscious fear of success - or of maintaining success - that we may not even realize we have. This isn’t intentional self-sabotage, but rather, our subconscious mind’s way of trying to keep us safe. This is particularly prevalent with people who have never experienced high levels of success before.
You seem stuck at a plateau in your business or unable to finally have the breakthrough you’ve been dreaming of with each new launch. Meanwhile, you see other entrepreneurs striking gold with every new offer they put out. So often, we jump to the conclusion that our audience doesn’t know us well enough yet, no one is buying because of the economy, or something was off with our marketing. While these things may contribute, the cause might be much deeper and much more personal. That other entrepreneur may have come from a successful corporate career and mirrored that success in her business because it already felt safe for her. But for you, it feels unfamiliar. Your mind perceives the unfamiliarity as dangerous, and blocks your ability to manifest the success you desire, despite how well you execute any strategy.
Lack of Self-Trust
When you’re running your own business, self-trust is one of the most underestimated characteristics needed. Since you are running the entire show, you need to trust your product or your services, your marketing skills, your business decisions, and your ability to show up consistently, day after day, while also managing to not burn yourself out. But self-trust takes more than confidence, skills, and business acumen. It requires learning to listen to and act on your intuition.
When you allow yourself to rely on your intuition in your business, you invite more flow, creativity, and a bigger vision to evolve as you and your business grow. If you don’t trust yourself or your intuition, you’ll constantly be looking for a better strategy. You’ll begin working harder instead of smarter. You’ll begin to rely too much on outside opinions than your own inner knowing. That’s when burnout happens. A stronger intuition - and the ability to act on it - leads to more self-trust and a stronger, more aligned business, which allows for you to manifest success faster and easier.
Why Traditional Mindset Work Isn’t Enough
Most traditional mindset practice, such as journaling, affirmations, and reframing belief patterns, attempt to reprogram your limiting beliefs and subconscious blocks from the outside in. You’re instructed to explore what limiting beliefs you have and where they came from, and then to consciously reframe them. These practices are often based on the idea that by repeating a new story of your beliefs and what is possible for you, you’ll reprogram your subconscious mind to align with success.
While the subconscious mind does learn through repetition, it’s not always the most efficient or effective way to make these changes. Declaring to your mirror each morning “I am worthy of success” will have little effect on your subconscious mind as long as it believes success is dangerous for you. These positive suggestions and affirmations, while well-intentioned, never quite make it to your subconscious mind because they are denied access, and your old programming remains intact.
So often, new clients come to me frustrated because they’ve been doing all the mindset work they can get their hands on, but still don’t feel any closer to manifesting the success they want. This is exactly why conscious-level mindset work alone isn’t enough…and it’s why hypnosis can finally give you the edge you’ve been looking for.
How Hypnosis Works
Before we dive into how hypnosis works, it’s important to clarify the two levels of your mind and the gateway between them. So let’s dive in…
The Conscious Mind
The Conscious Mind is the logical, analytical part of our mind. It is responsible for many of the actions we take throughout the day. It gets us to where we need to be on time. It puts dinner on the table. It figures out a whole lot for us. We cannot live without it. It analyzes our problems, then focuses on fixing them, often fixating on the problems to a fault. Because we know how helpful it is, we often rely on this aspect of our mind for everything. But here’s the catch: the Conscious Mind only makes up between 5-10% of our individual mind power.
The Subconscious Mind
The Subconscious Mind makes up the other 90-95%. It controls most of what makes up our human experience. It informs our Conscious Mind of what to do and what not to do. Its main function is to keep us safe and alive. Our Subconscious Mind controls our autonomic nervous system, which keeps our body running on autopilot. It keeps our hearts beating and our lungs breathing. Our Subconscious Mind is where all of our emotions live. Feelings and emotions often inform our conscious thoughts but can also exist under the surface and remain unrecognized or unacknowledged on a conscious level, often wreaking havoc on our emotions.
The Subconscious Mind forms our habits and patterns of behavior that we have learned over time to keep us safe. It contains our long-term memory, recording every experience we have ever had in this lifetime, as well as in past lives and between lives. Our imagination and creativity originate in the Subconscious Mind, and with it, the ability to create our lives, in both positive and negative ways, based on the stories we make up in our mind and how these stories play out. Our intuition originates in our Subconscious Mind as our inner guidance system that always knows what is best for us. Most importantly, the Subconscious Mind is a servant. It does whatever we tell it to do, as long as it feels safe to do it.
The Critical Faculty
Between the conscious and subconscious minds is the critical faculty. This is the gatekeeper to your subconscious mind. It filters what’s allowed in, what’s allowed out, and blocks any passage of any information that is not perceived as safe or important. If your affirmations or vision statement or anything else makes the critical faculty’s red flags go off, it will never make it to your subconscious mind, no matter how much you want it to or how many times you repeat it. This is where hypnosis comes in.
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis, despite how it is often depicted, is a 100% natural state of lowered conscious mind activity. It is the state between awake and asleep. We all naturally pass through it when we wake up each morning and fall asleep each night, and several times in between, like when you’re daydreaming or spacing out. In this state, the conscious mind and the critical faculty both go to the background and the subconscious mind comes forward. It is a perfect state for learning and rewiring your beliefs, habits, and feelings.
Hypnotherapy is the practice of guiding you into this state and then making positive suggestions to help you achieve these goals. Because it bypasses the gatekeeper, it allows you to make fast and long-lasting shifts to your subconscious programming. While the gatekeeper goes to the background, it never goes away entirely, so it will reject any suggestions you consciously do not agree with. This is why it’s so powerful for so many things, including manifesting a successful business.
The Business Benefits of Hypnosis
Hypnosis and hypnotherapy can benefit you in almost every area of your life, from releasing fears and phobias, to eliminating harmful habits, to building confidence, and the list can go on and on. Just within the realm of building a purpose-driven business, it can help you at every step on your journey. Here are four quick ways hypnosis can benefit your business.
#1 - Aligning with Your Purpose - If you want to build a purpose-driven business, you need to be clear on what your purpose is. Your life purpose isn’t just about being helpful or useful to other people. It’s about delivering the unique message you are meant to share in this life time. You know what this purpose is on a subconscious level before we were born, yet when we take human form, we forget it. Through hypnosis you can remember what this purpose is, and the best way for you to live it and apply it to your business.
#2 - Releasing Resistance and Self-Sabotage - Hypnosis allows you to reframe your beliefs and habit, release subconscious blocks, and rewire what your mind and nervous system deem as safe. Once you feel safe creating your dream business and believe it is possible for you on a conscious AND subconscious level, you’ll finally be able to put your dreams into action.
#3 - Embodying Your Future, Successful Self - When you envision the future version of you who has already accomplished this - and do it on a subconscious level through hypnosis - you begin to embody this new CEO identity, bringing this success into your current reality. It aligns your energy with the energy of your desires to create your new life as a successful entrepreneur.
#4 - Unlocking Consistent Client Attraction and Prosperity - Hypnosis allows you to rewrite your money stories so you can attract money and prosperity with ease, and it allows you to consistently attract clients to keep that money coming in. It does this in a number of ways: igniting your personal magnetism, releasing scarcity, inviting new opportunities, and taking inspired action, just to name a few.
And that’s just the beginning!
