Interview with Sarah K. Rhine

From Sarah:

I am a Southern Belle from Florida but have also lived in Texas, Alabama, and Tennessee. I teach yoga to all levels and ages, specializing in chronic pain management, from the realistic view of my own daily pain. Combining my yoga with strategic nutrition and lifestyle choices, I have learned to adapt and manage my pain to lead a successful, happy life with my husband, Brett.

What kind of work do you do?
I am founder and registered yoga teacher at TherapyRenew School of Wellness. It is a personal passion more than a business, as I coach other women warriors to lead happy, healthy, fulfilling lives managing their pain one day at a time.

What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?

I wanted to help other women learn they can lead a successful life despite pain or medical diagnosis. I wasted a lot of time not knowing how to start or where to turn, but I felt personally challenged to help my sisters in pain "stand on my shoulders", as they say. I figured if I can help one woman make less mistakes than I did, then I could count my mission successful. Here I am, less than a year later, with women I've never met messaging me, thanking me for what I do and telling me how my work has helped them. That is the original inspiration that keeps me going way more effectively than money ever could.

What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?

Identifying my niche - my place - in the yoga community. It seems so obvious NOW, but when I started teaching November 2019, I wasn't focused on women only or even how to go about sharing my story. Personally, I had to let go of viewing my pain or story as "weakness", and truly embrace myself in all my glory every day no matter what that looks like. Once personal passion and raw honesty meet, success is never far away.

Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?

I did almost give up. I had a month of complete "funk", questioning my motives and identifying each of my fears for what they are: excuses I was giving myself because I was scared. I was scared of succeeding in ways that would push me out of my comfort zone. When I realized that, I truly blossomed! Each time that fear creeps up on me, I choose to focus on CELEBRATING the opportunity to grow out of my comfort zone. This has led me to be not only a better teacher, but a stronger and more resilient person for my own well being and mental health.

What have you learned since beginning?

That the only thing that can hold me or any of my students back is in our minds, not our bodies or outside circumstances.

What’s the best advice you’ve received?

Don't be afraid to reinvent yourself.

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Boundaries. Having your own business is overwhelming all the time. There is always at least three things to do and that ONE MORE person waiting to be messaged back. It can really make you second guess your judgment and priorities. Creating boundaries for personal rest and family time is the most important part of entrepreneur life. I used to have a lot of insomnia and late nights until I created a strict personal regimen for bed time wind down and time with my husband. Remember you can't pour from an empty cup.

Is there a book you’d recommend to help with success and personal development?

I am a huge bookworm and have a hard time deciding between Stephen Covey's "7 Habits of Highly Effective People", and "The Happiness Trap" by Russ Harris. I think they work best together.

Do you have a routine that you attest to your success? If yes, what is it?

Yes, having strict morning and night time routines were essential for my success. I get up at 5am everyday to have a high protein, low carb breakfast before starting my day. Not only does this kickstart wake up without caffeine dependency, it also curbs cravings the rest of the day. I always quit business by 9pm, have a cup of tea, get a good book out with my husband. We read and chat until 10pm when we turn out the light. This routine has TRIPLED my work load efficency while DOUBLING my peace of mind.

How has social media played a factor in your success?

Keeping sisterhood strong and thriving - I have formed such strong, healthy friendships with other lovely women who are mature enough to offer not only unconditional support but also constructive criticism and accountability.

What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?

Treating social media posts and messages as if they are stale commercials or outright ads is a huge problem in the social media community. I especially encounter this in the new generation of up and coming business owners who then complain that nothing ever works for them. Sincere human friendship seeking and community building are lost arts we need to bring back as the true cornerstones of not only business health, but also national and global survival.

What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?

My Iphone 7 - I have self filmed, edited, and photographed everything on my social media and YouTube channel.

Is there something you wish everyone knew?

Daily discipline is what creates success, not having the most knowledge or tools.

What’s coming up for you in the next few months?

I am actually finishing my completely free Restorative yoga class series on YouTube with specific regimens to repair and relax all the areas we as humans tend to ignore or just accept as "unmanageable" without pills. I am also finishing the first draft of my book to help women learn to get back in touch loving their minds and bodies after trauma. Specializing in chronic pain has made me realize how chronic pain and trauma are often connected and even causing one another. I hope to publish by Christmas 2021.

What has being successful taught you?

It is a journey, like anything else in life, not a destination. The higher you get, the bigger the lessons you have to learn. But I know for sure, succeeding isn't nearly as hard as giving up, and it is definitely more enjoyable and fulfilling to yourself and the ones you love.

What are some fun facts about you?

I am a super nerd about books, Lord of the Rings, the old Star Wars, and anime. I am a professional pianist who loves adapting fantasy/folk and soundtracks to the keyboard. I also really enjoy gardening. I feel like there is a hole in my life if I don't keep up my herbs and vegetables.
