Interview with Nandin Kathleen Baker

What kind of work do you do?

I create, perform and teach others to make meditative music.

What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?

Playing music in a meditative ashram in India!

What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?

Building an email list.

Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?

Regularly, but I kept coming back to it since meditative music is so fulfilling!

What have you learned since beginning?

I’ve learned that music can be used as a change agent.  It has a big influence on us!

What’s the best advice you’ve received?

Get out of your head – which is exactly what happens when you improvise meditative music.

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Start simple, especially with improvising.  I have a lot of easy ways to get into it.

What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?

The thousands of people who listen to my music daily!

Which book(s) would you recommend to help entrepreneurs with success and personal development?

Inside Paul Horn,”  “The Power of Now,” and “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle.

Do you have a routine that you attest to your success? If yes, what is it?

I exercise almost everyday, which opens up the physical channels of creativity. Meditation is how I get into the flow.

How has social media played a factor in your success?

Streaming has changed the way we listen to music.  Thousands of people hear my music daily now.  The downside is musicians get very poorly paid for streaming.

What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?

Not building trust before selling.

What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?

Mailchimp!

Is there something you wish everyone knew?

Music can bring you to your inner essence, to who you really are.  That’s real success!

What’s coming up for you in the next few months?

I’ll be presenting  “The Meditative Hour” in both the Netherlands and the USA.  It’s a meditation where the music helps to calm your body and mind and lets you meet your authentic self meditatively.

What has being successful taught you?

Success isn’t the ultimate fulfillment.  It evaporates shortly afterwards.  Real success is being grounded in who I really am, in my essence.

What are some fun facts about you?

After I played professionally in orchestra, taught at University and in the Music Conservatory, I was inspired to become a street musician, which I did in Rome!
