Interview with Megan Chamberlin.
Please Teel us about Yourself.
I’m Megan Chamberlin, founder of C'mon Get Crafty, a blog devoted to creative solutions to everyday life. I’m a longtime blogger, digital product creator, and creative business strategist. What started as a way to document my crafty pursuits and the chaos between mom life and a full-time job has grown into a thriving platform that helps other creatives turn their passions into profitable ventures, ditch perfectionism, and find joy in crafting a life they love.
What kind of work do you do?
I create digital resources, courses, and coaching for creative entrepreneurs, while also running a lifestyle blog rooted in crafts, DIY, and authentic storytelling. I partner with brands to share valuable insights and recommendations that fit my audience’s needs, and help other creators build systems that bring structure to their creative chaos.
What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit! (I’m sure the launch of Pinterest also helped, ha!) When mom-life and responsibilities put a pause on my acting career, I naturally pivoted to other creative outlets to feed my soul. Sharing my crafty and often problem-solving ideas brought me a community that I wasn’t expecting, but in true form I was able to recognize the potential. Over time, I realized the behind-the-scenes skills I’d picked up (content marketing, SEO, digital products) were valuable. That’s when the “hobby” started to look more like a business.
What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?
Clarity, hands-down. I could create all day long, but finding a niche and trusting my voice took longer. I was juggling motherhood, a full-time job, and a million “shoulds.” Learning how to say no, focus in, and treat my work like a business changed everything.
Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?
Absolutely. Multiple times. Usually during burnout or when comparison crept in. And I did “ghost” my blog for quite some time, when life got too crazy. But even then, I saw how my posts and products were helping people, so I never actually shut it down. I’ll be forever grateful to “past me” for that simple decision - to keep things humming, if only passively - during that timeframe, because it gave me the perfect opportunity to finally invest fully when I was ready to come back, stronger than ever.
What have you learned since beginning?
You can’t do it all, and you don’t need to. “Done is better than perfect”. Momentum comes from consistent, small steps in the right direction, not chasing everything at once. Admittedly, it was a hard-earned lesson, from many missteps.
What’s the best advice you’ve received?
Be unapologetically you, because that is what separates you from the masses. Be business savvy, sure, but bring your full self to the offering table. You may not realize how many people are looking just for you.
What advice would you give someone just starting out?
Start messy. You don’t need to have it all figured out to begin. You learn more by doing than by waiting until it’s perfect.
What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?
Turning a decade of blog content into a full-fledged creative business - products, coaching, speaking, and partnerships. It still feels surreal that my “crafty mom blog” turned into a career.
Which book(s) would you recommend to help entrepreneurs with success and personal development?
Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert for creative confidence, and Atomic Habits by James Clear for practical growth. Beyond that - blogs! Read blogs from creators in similar or related niches - you’ll get insights and ideas you might not have otherwise, plus surrounding yourself with other creatives keeps your energy flowing.
Do you have a routine that you attest to your success? If yes, what is it?
I check in with my mood to amplify what I need to accomplish. Sometimes I just have to grit my teeth and get a tedious task done, but I do my best to align my task list with when I know I’ll be best set up to accomplish it. I time block work sessions around my family life, and batch creative work when my energy’s likely to be high.
How has social media played a factor in your success?
Pinterest by far has been my biggest success in “social”. My first viral pin brought thousands to my blog, and Instagram helped me connect with collaborators I now consider friends. However, I have not really invested as much time in social media (beyond Pinterest) as I’m sure I could, and I prefer not to tie myself to the success of an algorithm. I like social media, but I don’t like to be dependent on it.
What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?
Trying to be on every platform with the same voice. You don’t need to be everywhere, you need to be intentional where you are. Pick your platform that works for you and focus there.
What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?
My CRM, Simple Business Suite, has been my biggest game-changer. It compacts so many different tools into one - I LOVE it. I also lean on Trello, Notion, and ChatGPT for organizing my thoughts and plans, to make staying on track with my ADHD much simpler.
Is there something you wish everyone knew?
You’re allowed to grow slow. Overnight success is rarely overnight, and you don’t have to hustle at the expense of your peace. I’ve been a blogger making passive income for over 15 years. Only in the last year did I decide to focus on it full-time.
What’s coming up for you in the next few months?
I’m launching The Creative Edge, a new group coaching experience designed to help creatives stop spinning their wheels and start making strategic, joyful progress on their dreams.
What has being successful taught you?
Success is a fluid definition, and you don’t have to use anyone else’s but yours. Success can be as simple as a first $9 sale, as big as landing a role on a hit TV show, or anything in between - or beyond! Make sure you’re checking in with your own plot points - if you feel like you are more accomplished than you were the day before, you win! Measure your success by your own yardstick.
What are some fun facts about you?
I’m a walking entertainment encyclopedia, and I speak in movie quotes on a regular basis - I’ve got a reference for nearly any topic. I’m also a true crime junkie, a lifelong Cubs fan, an Anglophile, and a fierce advocate of women’s rights.
