What kind of work do you do?

Wedding and Event Planner, Tutor, Speaker, International Best-Selling Author

What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?

My love for decorating and hosting great parties for friends and family. I loved it since I was a young woman and a friend asked why not consider doing it as a career! I also wanted to partner with great companies all over the world to put on great events, and courses.

What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?

I would say having the energy to build it from scratch. To attend the networking events and promote, while still working a full-time job.

Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?

Yes there was a time or fourteen! That I thought about throwing in the tile. My children are my pure motivation to keep going and to leave them with a viable brand and business model that they can expand, duplicate and or sell.

What have you learned since beginning?

To trust God in all things, not just some things.

What’s the best advice you’ve received?

To whom much is given, much is required. But most recently, my teenage son, said to me “mom you will have to keep forgiving people, and you’ll keep needing forgiveness. It’s not a destination, its continuous”. Changed me on the inside out.

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

To get a schedule that you can take seriously, about when you are going to WORK your business.

What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?

I’ve had many. But I really enjoyed getting my first award as an author.

Which book(s) would you recommend to help entrepreneurs with success and personal development? Power Moves, by Sarah Jakes Roberts is a non-negotiable read.

Do you have a routine that you attest to your success? If yes, what is it?

Yes! I get up every morning and pray, get my kids to school and come back to work. I’m very serious about my “people-hours”. I don’t do a lot of other things when I’m supposed to be working at my business. I take breaks, I eat, I rest when I need to. But I respect the privilege of working for myself full-time, so I don’t take the time for granted. But when I am breaking or offline, I’ve learned to put my phone completely down.

How has social media played a factor in your success? Social Media is my catalyst for my brand. It has grown me, challenged me, stretched me, prepared me and given me the amazing network of women all across the country that support me. It is my roots.

What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?

People will fill their social media pages with a ton of “scam-looking” posts and then mix that with their business content. So the page as a whole doesn’t look trustworthy and definitely not professional.

What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?

I’m learning Mailchimp! And Chatbots as well as AI. I have enjoyed learning and teaching simple strategies for marketing with AI tools to my students and clients.

Is there something you wish everyone knew?

Giving yourself grace takes intentionality. It doesn’t just happen.

What’s coming up for you in the next few months? My Color For Cash TOUR! And more marketing with our clients and students as a shared opportunity. So carving out more pathways for them to get noticed, not just us. We also have our Beyond the Crayon Ad campaign through January, that is taking internet by storm for women to connect with the women who have supported our vision in business.

What has being successful taught you?

That people then put you in a box, where you are expected to always be “HAPPY”. And with that box, it suffocates the humanity of you. People forget you’re human.

What are some fun facts about you? I love pizza and coke zero a little more than necessary. I love to travel. I love to read. I love the progressive commercials LOL!!
