Interview with Amanda Houck:

Amanda Houck is a business coach and brand strategist. Branding is deeply ingrained in her purpose because she believes that every woman can attract her clients by simply being herself. Amanda worked in product development and branding in New York City for twenty years. In that time she experienced what branding could do for the corporation and her heart ached to do it for female entrepreneurs.

She started her business in the fall of 2017 and in the spring of 2018, she got sick and had to take a two year hiatus. Newly back in business for herself, Amanda is ready to implement all of the branding work that she did for the corporations but for the beautiful women that she connects with daily online.

What kind of work do you do?

Personal and business brands for female entrepreneurs.

What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?

I noticed that the corporate world didn’t support women having children. This pained me and I thought, I need to do everything I can to whisk away as many women from the corporate world as possible. Right now, I’m honing in on mothers who are ready to go back to work but either corporate won’t have them or they couldn’t imagine going back to the corporate circus.

What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?

I needed to believe in myself. Once I started to believe in my heart and mission, the clients started to ring my bell.

Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?

While I was out on sick time, I didn’t know how I was going to get started again. It was a really tough time and I was yearning the whole time to get going again, but I had to be patient and wait.

What have you learned since beginning?

I learned that getting your brand right and showing up consistently is an amazingly simple route to success.

Whats the best advice youve received?

The best advice I’ve received is to “Keep your result separate from yourself.”

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Branding is a very important aspect of the startup phase because it guides everything about how you are going to show up for clients. When you have your verbal and visual voice, you are ready to connect with your ideal customer in a way that’s just not possible without branding first.

Whats the professional win youre most proud of?

When I was sick I lost ALL of my program content. It literally got deleted. I felt desperate to rewrite it. But, to my surprise, I rewrote it in a matter of a couple of hours. That was a coup!

Is there a book youd recommend to help with success and personal development?

I love “Leveraging the Universe” by Mike Dooley

Do you have a routine that you attest to your success? If yes, what is it?

I wake up every morning and make myself a really good coffee and then I sit down with my journal and I work on my mindset for the day. Then I sit down and get my day started. And after I complete my morning, I go for a relaxing and inspired walk.

How has social media played a factor in your success?

I believe that “I” have played the greatest role in my success, but I have utilized social media as a tool and it has been a great home for my content.

What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?

In consistency. Showing up briefly and not consistently is the biggest mistake that is made.

What is the business tool thats been most helpful?

I LOVE trello. It houses all of my content in a simple and easy to navigate way.

Is there something you wish everyone knew?

I wish everyone knew that branding is NOT a logo. The logo is a result of some deep work that goes into creating our brand voice.

Whats coming up for you in the next few months?

I’m starting a 6 week group program with some lovely female entrepreneurs. So excited for it!

What has being successful taught you?

Your results are a combined effort of showing up ready to serve your ideal client and knowing exactly who you are and how you can connect with your ideal client.

What are some fun facts about you?

I’m an identical twin. My Mom was an award winning kitchen designer and she forever gave me the bug to look at kitchens with a design and function eye. In fact, that’s the way I look at my business today: design and function.  I have a 10 year old boy that I adore.
