Meet McKenzie Young... The Business Coach Sales Queen

7 figures business coach consultant corporate mckenzie young success Aug 07, 2019

From Mckenzie

I am a results driven business coach for business owners who want to build and scale successful businesses. I’m known as the sales queen <3

The following is our interview. My questions in BOLD and her answers follow.

What kind of work do you do?

I am a business coach with a background in corporate consulting!

What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?

I remember worked 3 jobs that I absolutely HATED. I was an absolute slave. I remember going into a deep depression and becoming overwhelmed by anxiety. I knew in my heart, that I was meant to do so much more - but my fears made me suppress it and I really struggled for a while. I remember being so exhausted but still never making enough money to make sense of all the hard work and fatigue. At 17 - I started multiple side gigs and made one full time when I was about 18, almost 19. I essentially “bootstrapped” it and b society standards - I should NOT have made it.

My grandfather always told me I could achieve anything I set my mind to… so I did.

I was raised by mom, a single mom, my whole life. My dad was in federal prison for most of my life (and honestly doesn't give a shit about me - which is completely okay!). I used to be the girl with “daddy” issues and dated ALL the wrong guys. Since then, I have healed and moved on from that.

My mom got diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer - and that’s when I really amped up my business.

I created Boise Boss Babes - a local group for empowering women by giving them a safe space to be themselves in a networking environment and give them the tools they need to be successful. I can’t stand the surface level networking events - so I created my own. One that was genuine and non-filtered.

I created my now six-figure coaching business.

My mom is my “why”. She gave everything up for me. So - last year I worked and paid off all her debt. I am taking her to Mexico this year to allow her to relax and heal.

I get to travel the world, live in a beautiful home in the hills with my golden retreiver Rose - and really live my best life.

I would NOT have all of this if I didn’t decide to make the leap a few years ago. I invested in a business coach about 2 years ago, and the rest is history.

What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?

My biggest struggle was getting out of my own damn way  - and learning to ask for help. I was the gal who “did it all” but in reality, that leads to burnout and a plateau. Once I made the shift from “I do it all” to “I do ONLY the business building tasks and work with clients” my business shifted completely.

Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?

I can’t count how many times I wanted to give up. Even now - I will have fleeting moments of “oh shit this is all on me”. I would say that those feelings are all normal for a business owner/entrepreneur. YOU are your own boss. If you don’t have money - that’s on you. You then no longer have a business, you have an expensive hobby.

I especially wanted to give up when I was also in flight school (I got my private pilot license last year, at age 20). I was overwhelmed with a to-do list, my mom was very sick, I felt like my life was crumbling, etc.

I even went through burnout so bad… that I fell asleep on the freeway going 80MPH.

I hadn’t slept in days.

I was stressed and depressed..

And I was driving on the freeway and fell asleep at the wheel..

Thankfully - I woke up in time to prevent myself from hitting anyone else and running into the barrier.

I pulled over…

Blacked out…

Woke up a few hours later… and I cried. I was so ashamed. I told myself I would NEVER tell a soul.

Then one day, I saw Ariana Huffington’s post about burnout on ThriveGlobal - and decided that if I could help prevent someone else from going through what I did - then I would share my experience to help someone else.

So - I did.

I emailed Ariana, she got back to me the next day and had me share my story to ThriveGlobal.

So yes -there were hundreds of times I wanted to throw in the towel - but I am SO thankful that I didn’t.

What have you learned since beginning?

I have learned to delegate out tasks and ONLY do the money making tasks in my business. Delegating tasks out and VALUING your time most - is the difference between a 5 figure business and a 6 figure business (and beyond).

What’s the best advice you’ve received?

“You can achieve anything you set your mind to” -My Grandpa

This knowingness and confidence that I really CAN do the damn thing - is the most powerful thing. I know that NO MATTER WHAT happens… I will get there.

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Have a very strong WHY that’s beyond yourself.

Because you only do so much for yourself until it’s not enough. Have a bigger purpose. Reach for a bigger impact on this world beyond your own life.

Hire a DAMN COACH. I wish I would have hired my first business coach from the very beginning. I would have made so much more money, so much quicker.

I always preach to “be afraid and do it anyway”

What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?

Building a 6 figure business and Founding Boise Boss Babes (with a Nationwide Franchise launching soon and my first product based business to launch soon)

Is there a book you’d recommend to help with success and personal development?

SO MANY BOOKS. If I had to pick one…

The 7 Spiritual Laws Of Success.

Do you have a routine that you attest to your success? If yes, what is it?

“You are your routine”

My morning routine and night routine are crucial. Do they happen 100% of the time? Of course not. I think it’s important to ebb and flow with life and give yourself grace. If you’re in a busy time of your business and only have 10 minutes? Great. Take that.

How has social media played a factor in your success?

Social media is so important. I can’t stress how important it is to get your brand right. Your messaging. Position yourself as the expert.

It’s vital.

Although I always stress building your email list (it’s the lifeblood). What if Instagram is gone tomorrow? Will you still have a business?

Have an email list!!

What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?

I see entrepreneurs not showing up as their most authentic self. They say things they think others want to hear - when in all reality people want to know that you’re human.

Add value.

Value. Value. Value.

And then pitch <3

What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?

Dubsado!!! Hands down.

Is there something you wish everyone knew?

This hits home for me.

It sounds cliche, but it’s not.

If you cannot create happiness and find happiness in the small things and be grateful for where you are now… you will always be miserable.

You need to “clean out your dirty laundry” is what I call it. You need to work through your shit. Your limiting beliefs. Your fears. Your past traumas, etc.

You have to look it in the eye - and say your goodbyes.

You also need to STOP getting caught up in the next best thing.

I thought I would be happy once I hit 6 figures… but…. I wasn’t. I was still sad.

I told myself I could be happy when I hit 7 figures. Which sounds messed up - but was true for me.

Find happiness in you, NOW. Create it… NOW.

What’s coming up for you in the next few months?

I will be launching a membership that is accessible to almost anyone - something I am so excited about! I have wanted to serve everyone for quite a while now.

I also have a Mastermind AND premium Sales Course (with VIP opportunities heeey) offered as well.

What has being successful taught you?

It has taught me to love the little things.

The trees.

The grass.

My dog <3

My family.

I realized that no matter what I accomplished, I needed to take a step back and be grateful for the small things (and big things like my dog and family) and spend time with those things.

What are some fun facts about you?

I am a licensed private pilot and fly all over Boise (for fun)

I am scuba certified

I am an adrenaline junkie

I am a super hippy at heart, I love yoga, chakra healing etc
