About Lisa-May Huby:

Lisa-May Huby helps high performing women online entrepreneurs break through $10k months so they can create massive impact without working more or hustling harder.

Lisa-May has been an online business owner for over 14 years, and has helped thousands of online entrepreneurs around the world create the income, impact and lifestyle they want.

What kind of work do you do?

I help women coaches and service-based business owners create the groundwork mental shifts that result in exponential business growth, and puts the smackdown on sabotaging behavior, thoughts, habits and beliefs that keeps them stuck.

What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?

I'd been laid off, "right-sized", downsized, terminated and fired often enough over almost 2 decades in corporate to know the Big U was trying to tell me something I secretly already knew: I didn't "fit" or belong there!

What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?

I stayed stuck in impostor syndrome for YEARS, and I ignored my intuition's nudges calling me to step up and become MORE.

Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?

I've actually quit 2x. After the big crash in '09, I couldn't get clients and hubby was laid off from his work. We relied on family donations of food and money to keep our home and food on our table for almost a year (my hubby joined the Canadian Air Force, and I drove to see his graduation from Basic training on my last $100 plus food out of our fridge consisting of peanut butter sandwiches and yogurt). In late 2010 I went back into corporate for a few years, then once again came back to entrepreneurship because I hated my job, the commute sucked, and really...I hated working toward a vision that wasn't mine.

The 2nd time I "quit", I walked away from my copywriting business to do ecommerce and Amazon selling for a year. Ultimately, I missed the coaching and working with others too much and returned to this space!

What have you learned since beginning?

I've learned SO much I can't even list everything! But really, it comes down to: show up daily. Do only the things that will move you forward. Ditch the rest of the crap that distracts your focus.

There are a lot of gurus and "experts" out there who are really great marketers...but not so great at helping others achieve results.

Entrepreneurs are serial collectors of strategy and tactics, and most won't do the deep personal work that is the key to resilience and success.

Most of all...trust YOURSELF and be confident in your ability to create what you want!

What’s the best advice you’ve received?

Anyone can over-complicate things. But it takes a smart person to make it simple. (from my current coach, Mary Morgan)

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Keep business simple. Start with ONE offer and social media - you don't even need a website! Avoid the shiny objects and tactics that you're not ready for yet, because that shit will keep you stuck.

What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?

Helping a client nail a $623k launch. Yes...this was ONE launch!

Which book(s) would you recommend to help entrepreneurs with success and personal development?

Atomic Habits (James Clear)

Tools of Titans (Tim Ferriss)

High Performance Habits (Brendon Burchard)

The Complete Works of Florence Scovel Shinn

Do you have a routine that you attest to your success? If yes, what is it?

Absolutely! I journal daily, plus I created a hybrid meditation/visualization that helps remove negative energy, thoughts, etc. that I use and have my clients use.

Business-wise, I've become ruthless with my time and use time-blocking to keep me on-task and ensures I get my 3 most important missions done for the day.

How has social media played a factor in your success?

When I first started online, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook were all new. IG didn't even exist yet! It was challenging to generate leads without cold outreach or networking like crazy.

Social media has helped skyrocket visibility and the ability to connect with dream clients; I get to serve more and receive more.

What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?

People don't really understand how to connect with each other online. As a result, they send cold DMs without A) research to determine if the person is a good fit, and B) not creating a connection first. I mean, would you pitch the cashier at the grocery store on your crypto or essential oils? How about your Instagram service?

We're not f*cking robots. Connect as a human TO another human.

Another big mistake: 'coach speak'. Look...you're further down the road than the people you're trying to help. So, when you jump in and talk about things like "generational trauma", they don't get it. Use the language your clients use. This is HUGE if you ever want your marketing to work.

Not re-purposing content (this was a big one I used to make) - the majority of ppl aren't going to see your posts, so there's no need to create a piece of content for every day of the month. Repurpose!

Not having the patience to test and optimize (also something I used to do). Marketing and social media are a giant experiment. If something doesn't work, tweak and try it again. Keep going until you've figured out what your audience connects with.

What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?

Hmm...I'd have to say Simplero. It's an all-in-one suite that's comparable to ClickFunnels on price, but actually DOES have everything in it to run an online biz. Email, landing pages, website, membership - it's the whole enchilada.

Is there something you wish everyone knew?

How to take radical personal responsibility for your outcomes, and that that happiness is a CHOICE.

What’s coming up for you in the next few months?

I'm really excited in my new 1:1 coaching program that doesn't focus on strategy or tactics, "The 7-Figure Springboard". This is a 12-week incubator that's all about doing the deep work required to overcome self-imposed upper limits, overwhelm and self-sabotaging behavior so you can experience exponential growth.

What has being successful taught you?

  1. a) No one has it all figured out.
  2. b) There's always room for testing and improvement.
  3. c) Patience really IS a virtue
  4. d) Our minds are crafty little buggers, and will always act in the name of safety and comfort. It's up to us to train our brains to level up and accept our "new normal".

What are some fun facts about you?

  • I'm a professionally trained singer
  • I love playing first-person shooter video games. Call of Duty and Dying Light are two of my faves.
  • I'm a movie buff - over 1,500 titles are currently in our collection (and the reason why no one will play Scene It or other movie trivia with me!)
  • I'm a fur-mom to two crazy and lovable Boston Terriers, Maya and Katie
