Meet Kesha Maute... The Branding Coach!
Sep 20, 2019This week I got a chance to interview Kesha Maute, a personal branding coach with a lot of heart!
From Kesha:
My name is Kesha Maute. I have a wonderful daughter on the autism spectrum who is always full of laughs, and a vast variety of knowledge! I have a huge sense of humour, love to laugh, and a tell-it-like-it-is personality. I’m also a huge fan of Harry Potter, FRIENDS, and coffee pretty much rules my life! I have a huge makeup collection, and love to tinker with all things tech/electronics.
The Following is our interview. My questions in BOLD and her answers follow.
What kind of work do you do?
I am a Personal Branding coach. I help female service based providers create their personal brand so that they can stand out powerfully in the online space, and attract their ideal clients to their audience and their offers.
What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?
I was homeschooling my daughter at the time. I needed something that would allow me to be at home with her so I could provider her with the education she deserved, while making an income. I was also living across the country away from my family, and needed the flexibility to travel home as often as I wanted/needed to.
I originally started out in network marketing, and although that wasn’t what was in the cards for me - it really opened up my eyes to this entire world of entrepreneurship. I loved the idea of being able to help others while making an income and an impact. I knew I would never go back to a “regular” job again.
What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?
Getting clear on what I wanted to do, and the strategies I was going to use in my business. There is SO much information out there that I got bogged down and literally just confused myself. I had a hardcore case of shiny object syndrome where I would start one strategy and then see an ad that promised success - and moved over to that one. It wasn’t until I invested in coaches and programs that were in alignment for me and my vision that I started to get clear on my path and see momentum!
Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?
To be honest - no. I’m kind of stubborn like that! I knew without a shadow of a doubt that this is what I was meant to do. That I was supposed to be my own boss and do my own thing. Yes, there were times where it was SUPER hard and felt like there was no light at the end of the tunnel. But when it comes down to it, when you have that fire - when you want something THAT bad, you find a way to make it work. I focused a lot of time and energy on my mindset to make it through the tough times.
What have you learned since beginning?
Personal development is absolutely everything. This journey has completely changed the way I think, and therefore behave in my day to day life. Your mindset surrounding your business and success is EQUALLY as important as the strategies you implement. If you believe that your launch will fail, no one will engage in your content, or that you can’t do this - then you’re right. You’re dead in the water from the start. Personal development isn’t easy, and realizing you’re the one who has been getting in your own way this whole time is a hard pill to swallow. But the good news is you can overcome it, and grow and expand into bigger and better places than you have ever imagined. You just need to put in the work!
What’s the best advice you’ve received?
My uncle said to me recently “You’re so wildly different than everyone else around you - the problem is, you pretend like you’re not.” And THAT really stuck with me and changed the entire way I approach my life and business. You need to be YOU at all times. Regardless of what anyone else has to say about it!
What advice would you give someone just starting out?
That vision of who you want to be six months from now, or a year from now - you get to have ALL of that. But you need to start showing up as her NOW. How does the future CEO version of you approach life and business? Does she invest in herself? Is she dedicated and committed? Is she having fun in her personal life? Start to embody those characteristics now and watch how fast things will start rapidly change before your eyes. What you focus your attention on is what you will bring more of into your life. So be mindful!
What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?
To be honest, it’s the small things. Seeing someone gain traction after they’ve joined my challenge, or someone popping into my inbox to say thank you and that I’ve inspired them in some way. Those tiny little things really add up and keep you going.
Is there a book you’d recommend to help with success and personal development?
My library is HUGE! I would start off with the “Badass” series by Jen Sincero. They will really get you in a motivated state of mind. Another great one is “Becoming Supernatural” by Dr. Joe Dispenza.
Do you have a routine that you attest to your success? If yes, what is it?
Work on your personal development DAILY. Read, take in a podcast, meditate, journal - do whatever it takes to continuously expand, learn, and grow.
How has social media played a factor in your success?
Social media has allowed me to connect with so many amazing people all over the world. Your audience IS online, but it is your job to find them. Human connection will ALWAYS need to be a huge factor in your business.
What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?
Cold Messaging. And I know lots of people are being taught this. Randomly pitching your offer in someone’s inbox is like purposing on the first date. It’s way too fast, and just weird! Sure, message people - but really build up that genuine connection with others. It can lead to some really amazing places.
What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?
Investing in coaches/mentors. Yes, I KNOW it’s scary. And I know it costs a lot of money. But if you want to get to that specific goal, you need to have someone who has been there show you how to get there! You can try DIY it and try to fit all the pieces together - but where has that gotten you this far? If you don’t start to make big decisions and leaps in your business, where are you going to be a year from now? Likely in the same place. Nothing changes if nothing changes. It’s that simple.
Is there something you wish everyone knew?
It doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from, or what you have experienced in your life - your success is possible.
What’s coming up for you in the next few months?
I run free trainings in my Facebook group every Thursday, which has been such a fun experience for myself and my community. I will also be launching a hybrid membership/group program alongside my 1:1 services.
What has being successful taught you?
That success is more than just hitting big money goals. Always celebrate the smaller wins. The likes, the comments, the msgs in your inbox, that first view on your live video - those are the ones that matter the most. The big wins after that are inevitable.
What are some fun facts about you?
I am terrified of Ostriches (I don’t know what it is - but it’s definitely NOT a bird)
You can’’t pay me to eat Jell-o, or any other kind of food that’s in a weird state between a liquid and a solid!
I essentially flew across the country for a first date!
I was born left handed, and then my kindergarten teacher kept putting my crayon in my right hand. So now I write like a left handed person, but with my right hand. It’s so weird.
I primarily write in cursive
I’ve never been stung by a bee or wasp.
I’m an only child
