Interview with Kayshaun Brooks.

From Kayshaun:

I'm Kayshaun Brooks. I'm a wife, mother and owner of Renew You Body Butters. I have a background of over 20 years in the medical and nursing field. I have my BSM and I'm a Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt. I'm learning to love life by taking all of my experiences and build by brand and business.

What kind of work do you do?

I make luxury organic skincare products and I teach on the holistic treatments that has helped me along my journey.

What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?

I can remember as far back as elementary school, trying to be the number one seller to win the big prize. Also, since I was young I've had some family members who have been entrepreneurs most of their lives. Therefore, seeing it most of my life it what has inspired me.

What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?

My biggest struggle was finding my brand identity. Evolving from that vendor, family and friends seller to the online world was challenging. I had to make a decision on who RYBB was going to be online and I had only slightly envisioned it.

Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?

In 2018 I thought about giving up. Within 58 days a drunk driver hit me at 80 miles per hour on the freeway and the job I was working at, electronic gates somehow malfunctioned and crushed me. I knew soon after my body was not going to be the same and things were going to change. I've been in pain everyday since and the only things that keep me from quitting is that I have four children who are depending on me and know they can't count on anyone else but me "Momma" to provide. I don't want my children to experience what I had too as I was growing up and because of that and now I have to want better for myself is enough reason to keep me from quitting.

What have you learned since beginning?

Networking and collaborating is very important.

What’s the best advice you’ve received?

Find a community of business like minded people who can help guide and coach you if needed.

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Don't try to do everything by yourself. Build a support system around you.

What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?

Co-designing and launching my website. It was those moments that made feel like "okay online world her is Kayshaun Brooks, RYBB and there is no turning back.

Is there a book you’d recommend to help with success and personal development?

At this moment I can't pinpoint a specific book because I love to read. Therefore I will suggest to read a lot and read on different things such a self, mental, physical, financial, and emotional development.

Do you have a routine that you attest to your success? If yes, what is it?

I have a routine of always looking for more ways to be efficient.

How has social media played a factor in your success?

Social media has been vital and I don't think I would be as far as I am in my business if it wasn't for social media. I've been collaborating all over the world with other people and businesses thanks to social media.

What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?

I don't I've been on social media long enough to answer this question. Only because for me everything I embrace as a learning lesson good or bad.

What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?

Networking and collaborating.

Is there something you wish everyone knew?

Try to always find some positive in the negative.

What’s coming up for you in the next few months?

Launching my ambassador/affiliate program.

What has being successful taught you?

Humility.

What are some fun facts about you?

I enjoy sing and dancing.
