The Infinite Power of You Book Club is excited to announce our May 2021 Author duo of the Month... Sophie & Kelly with their Book Is Love Enough?

About Sophie & Kelly:

Sisters Sophie and Kelly were raised in an environment of family violence and alcoholism. Due to unhealthy and dysfunctional role-modeling by their parents, the women were unable to form a clear sense of what a healthy relationship is, one that contains loving interaction, friendship and kindness.

Both women, as adults, have endured the pain of a marriage break-up involving young children. As their parents were frequently in survival mode, the girls were not taught how to understand what they were feeling, so they could try to make sense of the chaos that surrounded them or process all the unspoken stress in their home and lives.

Despite these negative learnings, Sophie and Kelly do attribute many positive characteristics to their parents, which include empathy towards others, equality, determination towards the developing of self and a strong desire to love and be loved.

Both women dare to believe that love can be different!

What kind of work do you do?

Sophie: I am multi-skilled and have found that all my jobs, life experience and skills have led me to creating my new found passion - of empowering women to want better when in an unhealthy relationship, especially where children are at the centre of the struggle.  I work as a hairdresser from home, I have some rental properties, I am an author and am growing my online business of coaching women who need help.  I am also a very involved mum of sporty twin boys aged 12 that I adore and love to be there for them as much as I can.

Kelly: I work with individuals and couples struggling with inner conflict/pain/sadness. I am passionate about assisting people to heal themselves or their relationship. I have been a therapist for over 10 years now and find it to be very rewarding and wonderful work. I am also recently a Certified Imago therapist. Imago Relationship Therapy is a form of relationship and couples therapy that focuses on relational counseling to transform any conflict between couples into opportunities for healing and growth. I am very passionate about this therapy and have seen its amazing effect and rewards for couples!

You are a published author, tell us all about your book!

Our book is so much wrapped up in to one, it is a story to relate with about unhealthy love, to connect and feel like you are heard and matter, it is a resource with powerful information, it is a guide to measure your worth in your relationship and it challenges and strengthens what you already know.  It helps turn the lightbulb on in your brain which may have been dimmed or even off for a while. It will help with trusting your gut with your partner or future relationships.

What inspired you to write it?

A year after my marriage ending I was still trying to understand everything and began journaling, I would show my sister (the University degree person and professional counsellor) and she would tweak, encourage or challenge me on what I had wrote.  It developed from there.

I knew there would be many other women struggling with the pain, shame and conflict of a toxic relationship, and I wanted to help and empower them.

What did you enjoy most about the writing process?

Seeing it develop and become a book to really help someone.  Watching it progress from my journaling, to a resource that I am very proud of.  The amazing people I have met along the way who have encouraged and inspired us!

What was the most exciting moment after it was published?

Seeing people’s desire to want to read it when they hold the physical book in their hands or even read the cover name - "Is love enough?"  Our cover design is an actual painting from a local artist in New Zealand and the painting is in Kelly's lounge at home.  It is of a couple holding a big heart shaped balloon, can they hold on to it, or do they need to let go?

What do you hope readers will takeaway?

A sense of sharing an experience with other women who totally understand how they feel and the choices they have made.  The knowledge of understanding healthy and toxic love.  But most importantly the change to empowerment, self worth and self love and knowing what you will accept for yourself.  That you can change your world (and your children’s) by choosing to be around kind, respectful loving people that value you and your inner beauty.

What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?

Educating and empowering women!  Leaving marriage's so our children could live in safe loving homes was the most powerful thing both of us have ever done!

What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?

Being impatient, we didn’t realize how important it was to build up trust and just to show up consistently. Also navigating our way through all the modern technology - but we have learnt so much along the way!

Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?

Yes, absolutely, and then I get a message from someone saying “thank you for being there when I needed you”.  Knowing I have helped someone.

What have you learned since beginning?

That everything is a process and we learn and develop as we go,  we figure out what works and what is needed in time and by trial and error.

Someone out there needs you and your product!

What’s the best advice you’ve received?

To show up as you, be your own weird, your own excellence - others will love what you have to say and want your help and advice.

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Keep being and doing you and in a few months you will know your path.

Reach out to others who have been successful for tips.

It’s such an awesome feeling when you make the breakthrough of knowing what works - when people start responding to a post or messages that you have created.  It’s trial and error, but with error always comes the payoff if you just keep adjusting it and don’t give up!

What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?

Having the New Zealand national company for the libraries purchase some of our books in bulk, to put in to libraries for anyone and everyone to read.

Is there a book you’d recommend to help with success and personal development?

Honestly - you may laugh but “he is just not that into you”. When the message clicks you can apply it to all areas of your life, friends, interviews, boyfriends and husbands.   Then you don’t waste your energy trying to win someone over or change yourself for them- it makes life way easier!

Do you have a routine that you attest to your success? If yes, what is it?

Posting an original beautiful, inspiring quote in lots of groups twice a week and befriending the people that love your quote. These are your ideal clients!  Also you then discover you're branding and what people like.

Not forcing myself to post if I am not feeling authentic. When I feel inspired within myself, I want to share this with my page and group, this always gets good results.

How has social media played a factor in your success?

It is the gateway to all women, all over the world who need our support.

If you show up and keep putting your product or service out there, it will get seen by the people who need it most.

What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?

I don’t think there are social media mistakes, because you grow and learn and you have to make mistakes to do this.  But I have discovered that groups, like ours, that have shame at its core, require deep connection, trust building and time.

Disconnect from groups that don’t serve your messages well.

What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?

Canva - I love it and I look back at what I have created in previous months and just slightly tweak or add to them and repost again!

Is there something you wish everyone knew?

When you are feeling deflated - do a post that is something you need to hear for yourself right then.  It will do well.

Relationships are not meant to be really difficult and toxic - they are meant to be supportive, uplifting and safe to share your feelings.

What’s coming up for you in the next few months?

We are looking in to doing Imago couple retreats- where the couple has intensive training over the weekend and stays in lovely accommodation, a really good break away plus learning powerful new skills.

What has being successful taught you?

That perseverance and believing in your passion or product is key!

People see it and feel it when you own the success you feel about yourself.

What are some fun facts about you?

We are identical twins and we love to sing!  We have New Zealand and Irish passports!  We love animals and we are very curious by nature! ❤️
