Interview with Jalissa

Please tell us about yourself!

Hi! My name is Jalissa, and I’m an all-around creative person (artist, author, and more) who loves the moon, tea, chai lattes, books, art, and a good K-drama. I’m a single mom, and soon-to-be graduate student.

What kind of work do you do?

I’m a Showit and Canva web designer! I design websites to be uniquely you and boundless. My career as a web designer began with a mix of my love of art and helping people. I apply my creative interests and skills in everything that I do. I love helping people find their vision and making it happen on a beautiful and efficient website. Be boundless, be the amazing light within yourself. I can’t wait to work with you!

What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?

My creative goals and interests inspired me to get started as an entrepreneur. Also, definitely my need for the schedule flexibility in this busy world!

What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?

Definitely making sure everything was set up and ready to go. I had to learn to let go of the urge to be a perfectionist and just start.

Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?

Yes, doubts always show up. One of the things that kept me from quitting is the fact that I get to do something I love and help people doing it.

What have you learned since beginning?

So far, I learned to just take things one step at a time and to give myself some grace when I make mistakes.

What’s the best advice you’ve received?

The best advice I’ve been given is just to create it, make it exist first, you can fix it up later!

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Honestly, I would just tell them the above advice. It covers so much!

What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?

My professional win I’m most proud of so far is making everything official with my business setup. Getting it done and being able to move forward at last.

Which book(s) would you recommend to help entrepreneurs with success and personal development?

I could recommend books galore, but a specific one that I loved a lot was The Mountain is You by Brianna Wiest.

Do you have a routine that you attest to your success? If yes, what is it?

I don’t have a specific routine that I’d attest to my success. Just keep going!

How has social media played a factor in your success?

Social media has helped a lot with making connections with clients and engagement with them, which is a huge factor in my success.

What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?

I think social media mistakes are many and complex depending on lots of things, but I think it’s important to just be yourself.

What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?

Canva is an amazing business tool.

Is there something you wish everyone knew?

Yes, I’d LOVE to work with you on your website!

What’s coming up for you in the next few months?

I’m going to be a developmental editor of fiction novels in the next couple of months. I’m a novelist and I love editing books as well, so I wanted to get the education to do so. What has being successful taught you?

It has taught me to believe in myself.

What are some fun facts about you?

I lived in Japan for a school year in high school. (I used to speak Japanese fluently, but not anymore sadly.) I loved it!
