What kind of work do you do?
I am a stay at home mom and am doing affiliate and digital marketing from home in between school runs and family life.
What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?
We hit bankruptcy within the last 2 years and we are not fully out of it yet. My goal was to help contribute to my family and get bills paid. I have the determination to make this work.
What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?
That I couldn't financially invest in myself so in other words to buy programmes to help me on my digital marketing journey. I put in the time and just started creating content not knowing whether people even noticed.
Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?
Yes, more than once. What stops me from quitting is who I am doing this for - I'm doing this for my family and I have to make this work. I want to prove everyone wrong who keeps saying digital marketing is a scam. I started creating my own digital products as well. Over the last few months, ironically, I actually haven't focused on sales at all. I've been so focused on getting my message out there and trying to make a difference to someone's life.
What have you learned since beginning?
You really don't need hundreds of dollars worth of products or courses. I have found alot of value in low ticket products. Because I couldn't really afford to invest in myself with money, I did everything the free way. I still post my content organically, I don't pay for ads or anything. I use the free version of chatgpt, free advertising websites, free Canva although now I have managed to invest in the pro version and grok (Grok was free and I loooooved it but when it became a paid version, I stopped. It's only recently that I invested in the cheaper version of grok.
What’s the best advice you’ve received?
Don't overthink and create value all the time.
What advice would you give someone just starting out?
I would say don't start by trying to figure out your whole life. You always think you need the perfect plan but that hardly happens. Start by getting brutally honest about what isn't working anymore, what are you willing to tolerate, what is draining you. It's about making one clear decision that puts you back in motion. One clear decision, then the next one and the next one helps you to rebuild.
What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?
Absolutely creating my own digital products and my audience grabbed them. Then I felt I was on the right track. I love some of my affiliate programs I am with as well and I have earned from those, very small wins but still wins for me.
Do you have a routine that you attest to your success?
If yes, what is it? Focused pockets of time. I don't have alot of time, my girls' school is a 35 min drive from home so I give an hour or 2 focused hours in the morning before I wake them up from school. I sometimes squeeze in a 30 min session before school pickup and then an hour or 2 after supper. Focused time, even if it is 15 mins or 30 mins can make a huge difference. I have a motto as well, to make at least one person smile everyday, whether creating funny content, make my girls laugh, whatever the case is, there needs to be a sense of fun and laughter - life can be serious enough.
How has social media played a factor in your success?
Not only because of the opportunities but also because of the people. I've connected with people from all over the world, learned from their experiences, challenged my own thinking and discovered different perspectives.
What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?
Speaking to everyone and not to one person. I've found that people are too scared to share their story. I think your story is the biggest part of who you are and who you can help.
What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?
For me: ChatGpt, Canva and Grok.
Is there something you wish everyone knew? In my experience and maybe I'm completely wrong or still need to learn, I didn't find digital marketing to be as easy as everyone makes it look. You do need to put in the work and effort.
What’s coming up for you in the next few months?
Just focusing more on creating my products to help others and really continue to get my message out there. I have found in my circle that alot of people have been going through a tougher time now than during covid and I want to show them that there is a way out, even if the road is long!
What has being successful taught you?
Honestly, I have no clue. I don't think I'm successful yet! But maybe, that's taught me something too. I am proud of how far I have come and I'm still learning. Some things I am good at, some things need a bit of work. But looking forward to being successful, that's for sure!
What are some fun facts about you?
I love to make someone laugh or smile. I have a twin sister and she lives in Ireland. I love designing, I did digital scrapbooking as a hobby. I am actually an introvert but when I get to know someone, I'm a slight lunatic and I swear waaaaay too much.
