Grab a cuppa ☕️ let's talk Perimenopause

I first noticed I didn't quite "feel like myself" when I was 34. Nothing big yet just... off.

Miraculously that was about the time that Perimenopause discussions started to pop up on socials.

That was the VERY FIRST TIME that I had EVER heard the word "Perimenopause."

No one had ever told me about it.

Menopause sure. Peri... wtf is that???!!!

Suddenly, what was "off" made sense.

Then... the symptoms started...

Hot flashes

Endlessly needing to pee

Periods being all over the map.... further apart, shorter, longer, heavier, lighter, rust colored...

Anxiety

Stress

Mood swings

B.O. from hell

Insomnia

Rage

Brain fog

Tinnitus

Histamine response out of whack

Itchy

Achy

Heart palpitations

Meno belly

Dry hoo-hoo

Etc.

Etc.

Etc.

And... all the lifestyle "things" didn't work....

Soy milk for days

100grams + protein

High fiber

Low sugar

Lots of fruits and veg

Magnesium, Iron, creatine, D3+k2, black seed oil

Daily exercise

Stretching

Meditation

Years ago I thought 💯 that "go natural" was the best for everything, menopause/Perimenopause included.

After all, I went to a homeopathic practitioner MORE than a doctor growing up.

But the science changed my mind about Hormone Therapy (especially bio-identical).

BHRT protects against dementia, heart issues, bone loss, etc.

At age 36 I was finally ready to get help...

But help wasn't there.

I didn't have a family doctor so I went through telehealth.

I got told I was too young but sent for blood work; but that doctor didn't test the bioavailability aspects of Hormones.

The blood work follow up, the doctor didn't look at anything but my estrogen levels, even though my progesterone levels were almost non-existent and thats typically the first hormone to drop.

I got "refered" to a gynecologist with a form that ONLY said "menopause?"

None of my symptoms.

It was... rejected.

I gave up and asked for hormonal birth control, I needed relief.

It helped... until it didn't. 5 months later I felt like 💩

So I stopped it.

I tried reaching out to telehealth again, they said again I was too young (I'm 38) and it was likely somethingelse like thyroid... sent for another blood test.

Luckily I'd done my research and knew what to ask for on the hormone end of it.

This time, I bit the bullet and took my results to Modern Menopause Canada.

Today I had my appointment.

In 25 minutes I got properly diagnosed (yes, I AM in Perimenopause as my FHS shows plus my low progesterone). Oh and my thyroid, b12, and blood sugar levels are EXCELLENT.

My symptoms were addressed.

AND my prescriptions are in the mail.

I'm overjoyed to finally be seen and heard on this journey.

Its felt very isolating.

Keep advocating for yourself and go to a peri/menopause specialist.

Sadly, the majority of doctors get less than 1 day of training on menopause.

We'll be the generation that demands better care.

If you're Canadian 🇨🇦 I can't recommend Modern Menopause Canada HIGHLY ENOUGH! They're amazing 👏
