Meet Cait Townsley... Transformational Trainer, Coach, Professional Women's Bodybuilder, & Hypnotist
Apr 28, 2021From Cait:
Hello! I am Cait Townsley, a transformational trainer, coach, professional women's bodybuilder, and hypnotist with a decade of classroom teaching experience.
What kind of work do you do?
My approach to coaching combines personal training with nutrition, mindfulness, and hypnosis. I help clients overcome their blocks and limiting beliefs to allow them to design the life of their dreams.
What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?
I began my career as a K-12 teacher but quickly realized my passion and natural gift was coaching. I've had many trials and tribulations that help me connect deeply with others. This sparked the entrepreneurial spirit in me. I craved the freedom of being my boss while serving others.
What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?
The biggest struggle for me was getting past the "imposter syndrome". I have almost a dozen certifications, and I initially doubted my knowledge. Working through that has allowed me to take the leap into the online world.
Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?
Absolutely! I started my business in Spain after going through a marital separation and having almost no money. I was terrified. The pandemic then hit Spain hard in March 2020. I found myself trapped abroad alone, financially insecure, and unemployed. I couldn't quit. It was a sink or swim situation. I had to get creative on how I make money as we could not leave our homes in Madrid to even walk on the street for fresh air. Last year, the pandemic was devastating for many of us, but it gave me the biggest push forward, and now my confidence in myself and my business is sky-high.
What have you learned since beginning?
I have learned that it is best to use the approach of backward design in creating your business, your life, or any goal really. Think of the desired outcome and then start thinking of the steps or habits needed to get there. Many of us think the other way around.
What’s the best advice you’ve received?
Honesty is the best policy.
What advice would you give someone just starting out?
My advice to anyone starting out is to get clear on your vision, but also understand aspects of it will shift as you evolve. That's okay! Also, don't burn yourself out trying to be on every social media platform or have every kind of offer in your business. Pick one or two things you can really excel at or craft, and master them! Then add more. When you show up as yourself and rock 1-2 things, you have more impact than doing 10 things half-butt stressed out.
What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?
In 2017 I became an OCB Professional Bikini Athlete in less than a year and won 4 bodybuilding shows on the East Coast. This for me was a massive accomplishment. As a coach and trainer, it not only gave me professional recognition, but it reminded me that we all have so much untapped potential.
Which book(s) would you recommend to help with success and personal development?
Hands down, "Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself" by Dr. Joe Dispenza. This book changed my life. I also think everyone should read, "Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz and "Secrets of a Millionaire Mind" by T. Harv Eker.
Do you have a routine that you attest to your success? If yes, what is it?
My routine consists of making sure I take care of my non-negotiables each day. These are habits I have reflected on and feel I need to do daily to be the best version of myself and show up for others. For me they are at least 30 minutes of movement/exercise, making food choices that honor my body, and dedicating a few minutes to meditation and a short gratitude practice daily.
How has social media played a factor in your success?
Social media has allowed me to reach people I never would have had the chance to reach otherwise. I love connecting with others all over the world.
What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?
I think many people feel they need to put on a happy face on social media or hide their vulnerability. As a coach, we sometimes think we have to be a perfect role model, but we also experience bad days or moments, bad food choices, self-doubt from time to time. People want to hear and see the vulnerability. It's relatable.
What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?
When it comes to business tools, I'd say Google. I know that is basic, but Google has allowed me to organize my life in so many ways with its calendar, meet classroom, and other applications.
Is there something you wish everyone knew?
I wish everyone knew how awesome they were just for being them.
What’s coming up for you in the next few months?
I am working on an e-book around money mindset and looking to start a Youtube channel to help people all over the world become more empowered despite their circumstances.
What has being successful taught you?
Being successful has taught me to really appreciate my struggles and see them as nuggets of wisdom.
What are some fun facts about you?
I speak three languages: English, Spanish, and Italian. I will admit my Italian level is lower, while the other two are fluid. I am a total nerd for language learning. I love learning in general! I've traveled a lot but had a home base in three countries: the USA, Spain, and Thailand. I'm also a sucker for dark chocolate and a good coffee. I love the rain just as much as I love the sunny days. I am a proud Etsy shop owner too!
