Business Advice: Stepping Outside the Box

advice affiliate marketing business coach consult esthetician out of the box referrals Jul 03, 2025

This week I had a business owner, whose worked over a decade as an esthetician, reach out for some guidance on how to bring in new clients and having more repeat business. We took a look at her business, the clients that have come in, in addition to the market potential given the current economic climate, and the following advice is what we passed on:

We've seen a lot of consumer trends, particularly since 2020, as people have gone through job insecurity during the pandemic, followed by both recession and inflation. The average person cuts back on "luxuries" during these times, such as dinners out, facials, etc. However, there are numerous ways this can be approached to bring in new and recurring clients during this time:

  1. Market to a different niche

While many people are cutting back on luxuries, not everyone is. If your marketing and messaging targets earners in the 6-figure+ range, they still have the disposable income to not worry the expense, and instead, they're more excited about the experience, so the messaging needs to lead with what they want out of it: price isn't the concern, how they feel is, so lead with that.

Additionally, as you mentioned the audience you really desire to serve cares about their skin, so make that prominent in your messaging, saying things like, "You love your skin and making sure your skin is nourished and healthy is important to you," will resonate with these types of people.

  1. Rebooking bonus within a timeframe/ bulk buy

Given your existing market is price conscious, and you're looking for consistency, creating packages and/or rebooking bonuses when they come back within a certain time frame can create more reliable income.

Example:

Let's say a 90-minute facial is normally $180:

Rebooking: If they rebook their next session to happen within the next 60 days, they get it for $130, saving $50

Packaged: They can buy 3 sessions they can book anytime within the next year for $360, saving $180 (essentially buy 2 get 1 free)

  1. Sell related products

The products you use, face creams, masks, essential oils, crystal face wands, etc. become an affiliate for these products and offer them, both at the end of sessions and to your mailing list and in your marketing, to bring in income without having to warehouse/ship merchandise.

  1. Create a Digital Offer

I'd highly recommend making an online course that goes over how people can do their own at-home facials, like a guided series. You can educate them on the products, what they do and why (plus a great easy spot to then give them the affiliate links to those products). You can show them how to do their own facial massages, go over why they movements work to help tighten and lift the skin, etc.

Not only does this give you another income source for your existing audience, but it also allows you, along with the affiliate products, to sell outside of your local demographic.

  1. Referrals with complimentary local businesses

Massage therapists, chiropractors, and other health and wellness practices can be excellent referral partners. Make those connections and let them know you'll refer your clients to them, and when their clients are looking for your services to send them your way. Any clients you send to them, you get paid 20% of the sales, and vice versa, so you all always win, and stay incentivized to make the referrals.
