This week I had the privilege of interviewing the incredible spiritual coach Anissa Cosby.

About Anissa

Anissa Cosby is a self taught graphic and web designer, who happens to be involved with all things Spiritual and Woo. Infusing these aspects together, she's designed a business that works for her and her clients. Along with her team, she helps give her clients peace of mind by providing stellar creative services, managing their content and business, and spiritual advising. As an Intuitive, she has spent the better part of 17 years on your spiritual journey, which began when she attempted to commit suicide at the age of 13. Ever since then, she's been following the path put before her, regardless of the obstacles. She's a mother to three amazing kids and has an equally spiritual husband as her life partner. She is always happy to help others heal from their spiritual trauma so that they can live up to their life purpose.

The following is our interview. My questions in bold and her answers follow.

What kind of work do you do?

I am an intuitive designer, content manager, and spiritual advisor. My spiritual services consist of: Spiritual Healing Intensives, Tarot Readings, and Spiritual Advising for Business Owners. My design & management services consist of: graphic design, web design, and content management.

What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?

I had just had my son and when having to go back to work, I knew that it wasn't going to satisfy me forever. I knew I had to do something, because I couldn't work full time anymore. It didn't feel right in my heart. So I was inspired as a self-taught graphic designer to get started on Etsy. I sold comic book wedding invitations! From there, I started VA work and everything just grew and exploded from there!

What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?

Dealing with content overload. Once I announced to the world that I was starting a business, I was slapped in the face with every possible "free webinar" and "free guide" imaginable. It was hard to decipher what was good content versus bad content. A lot of it contradicted each other. So it left me overwhelmed and frustrated.

Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?

Oh yes! I was going through a rough patch in my life and I wasn't making as much money as I wanted to. So I started to think about going back to work full time. But every time I thought about it, my intuition kept hitting me in the gut. I would look at my kids and the life I had started to build and I said "nope." And that is what kept me from quitting.

What have you learned since beginning?

This takes a lot of time, patience, and persistance. There will be some resistance from others who think that having a business might not work out for you. Pushing past those doubts and continuing to walk your path is the biggest lesson I've learned. Also, learning that businesses change, ideal clients change, and things are never set in stone. I used to doubt myself whenever I felt shifts happening, but then I've learned that it's normal!

What’s the best advice you’ve received?

This is a hard one because I've received lots of great advice over the years. I would say that creating a vision board was the best thing someone ever advised me to do. I'd heard about them but never really did one until this year. It has really rocked my world and changed my perspective on things. I look up at the goals I've set for my business and realize I've met 6 out of 10 goals!! That really boosts me up!

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Seek advice when you are unsure of what your next move is. Either by finding a mentor, a coach, or networking in your community. The best thing I ever did was hire a business coach. It has helped me make so many strides in my business and catapulted me so far ahead of where I'd be if I'd try to do it all on my own. Having someone I can turn to when I'm lost or confused in my business has made a significant impact.

What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?

Combining both of my businesses into one is my biggest win. It's a non-sale win but a big one nonetheless. The sense of clarity that I've had since combining everything has allowed more ease and flow in my business and life. I had once kept both of my businesses separate because I was worried that I'd exclude clients if they were together. One was design and the other spiritual. But then I realized that my target clients ARE spiritual so they wouldn't have an issue! So now, I attract the right clients to me!

Is there a book you’d recommend to help with success and personal development?

"You are a badass at making money." by Jen Sincero. This book drastically changed my mindest and relationship with money. This was BIG as it allowed me to welcome money in with more ease and without guilt. This then allowed my business to flourish.

Do you have a routine that you attest to your success? If yes, what is it?

Daily meditation and prayer, and a weekly card pull for myself. This helps me stay focused on what my goals are for the week, not just for my business but for my personal life as well. In addition, setting healthy boundaries have made a big difference!

How has social media played a factor in your success?

OH I wouldn't have a business without it lol. Facebook and Pinterest are my two biggest traffic draws. In addition to that, networking with people online, and getting referrals are all made possible through social media.

What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?

Often people post about their issues before they're fully healed from it. Because of this, the post comes from a place that may be too vulnerable for their audience. They then come back later to fix what they said during the time they were hurt. That plus people who don't give enough value and invite you to all the groups imaginable for their product...

What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?

Lately, I'm obsessed with ActiveCampaign. I moved over from MailChimp because it's so intuitive and I can set up some really awesome automations. I love being able to set conditions based on what actions someone takes. I can also follow my audience flow better and provide them with content just for their needs.

Is there something you wish everyone knew?

That they have the potential to do anything they desire, so long as they have the courage to do it!

What’s coming up for you in the next few months?

I am launching a course Spirit & Business Infusion which teaches business owners how to infuse spiritual practices into their business so that they can strategize and be successful.

In addition to that, I am currently working on my first printed Workbook which I hope to release by Fall 2019.

The last thing coming up for me is creating my own tarot deck!

What has being successful taught you?

That I can do more than I gave myself credit for. I've learned to be confident in myself, my offerings, and my abilities. And when I do have my moments of self-doubt and imposter syndrome, my success shows me that I can let go of those doubts because I have something to prove to myself.

What are some fun facts about you?

I'm a big ol' geek!!! I love comic books, Harry Potter (House Hufflepuff!!) and more. My husband and I had a comic book themed wedding and I have a tattoo of Wonder Woman on my thigh, from hip to knee. Yes, I'm that obsessed! I do have a quirky sense of humor, that my kids and husband often find corny. HAHA. My spirit animal is a Coyote, which represents the humor in me. :-)
