After almost 6 years of lurking she made her first purchase

Our firm makes high-volume sales as a service based provider. As such, we're always reviewing our analytics and consumer habits.

A few days ago, I had something incredible happen. As I was reviewing our sales I saw that after 5 years and 10 months, someone on my email list finally made their very first purchase. 🎉

Almost six years of quietly showing up, sharing value, nurturing, and staying consistent—before that one “yes” came from them. It got me thinking about the power of the long-game in business.

Now, I see entrepreneurs give up on leads within days, weeks, or maybe a couple of months. They’ll write someone off if they don’t buy right away. But here’s the truth: you never know how, when, or why that person might eventually decide to become a customer or client.

That’s where patience, persistence, and consistency come in.

Patience: Trusting the Long Game

Most entrepreneurs are focused on quick wins and instant conversions. And while yes, we do need a strong nurture-to-purchase sequence (so we have reliable cash flow and consistent growth), that’s not the whole picture.

The reality? Many people are watching from the sidelines for months—sometimes years—before they’re ready.

Patience means trusting the process and understanding that the seeds you plant today might not sprout for years. It’s knowing that not everyone is going to buy in week one… but that doesn’t mean they won’t ever buy.

That subscriber who finally converted after 5 years and 10 months? They’ve been reading my emails all this time. Quietly. Consistently. And when the timing was right for them, they said yes.

Persistence: Showing Up Again and Again

It’s not enough to dabble. Business requires persistence: the willingness to keep showing up even when you’re not seeing immediate results.

Think about it: if I had stopped sending emails after the first year because that subscriber hadn’t purchased yet, I would’ve lost that sale entirely.

Persistence means staying in the game, even when it feels like nothing is moving. It’s that resilience to keep building, keep offering, keep inviting, and keep growing—because you know your audience is watching, even if they’re silent.

Every email. Every post. Every offer. Each one adds up.

Consistency: Building Trust Over Time

At the end of the day, people don’t just buy products. They buy trust.

Consistency builds credibility. It shows your audience that you’re not a “one-hit wonder,” but someone who can be relied on, day after day, year after year.

When you keep showing up with value, insights, and support, you become part of their world. You stay top of mind. And when they’re finally ready to invest, it’s not a question of if they’ll buy, it’s a question of when.

Integrating This

Yes, master your funnels. Yes, create offers that convert quickly. Yes, set up nurture sequences that lead to regular sales. These strategies matter for predictable cash flow.

But don’t discredit the silent audience. Don’t write off the ones who’ve been watching for years.

Because business isn’t just about short-term wins. It’s about the long game.

👉 Don’t burn your bridges.

👉 Be reliable.

👉 Stay consistent.

👉 Play the long game.

Because the customer who says yes after nearly 6 years proves one thing: patience, persistence, and consistency create results.
