Witnessing Ronnie adapt to his new life since we adopted him November 2nd 3024 has been the most rewarding experience of my life. When we Adopted Ronnie from Gananoque & District Humane Society, we said we wanted the hardest to adopt cat. We wanted to give a home to the least likely cat to get one. Ronnie is a sweet soul, but he does bite (and hard) so he couldn't go to animal house with children. He needed a serene place because he gets overstimulated. He'd been at the shelter 9 months and being with so many other cats stressed him out. We call Ronnie the "policeman" because he doesn't like when the other cats have spats, and he breaks up any kitty arguments.

Ronnie came home, and surprisingly, was calm when he came out of the carrier. He proceeded to slowly but confidently explore the house. Watching him take it all in was so heart warming. His eyes looked like a child's eyes at Disneyland 🥹

Before bed, I heard a loud crash, and Ronnie came running up the hallway, wide eyed 👀 "What happened baby?" I asked and pet him to find he was wet. I giggled, "Aw, what did you do?" I went out into the other hall, to see he'd knocked over the watering can. Ronnie peeked at me, with a look that said, "I hope you're not going to take me back." I reassured my live bug boy everything was OK.

That first night he came to be with us, rumble purringing so loudly, rubbing on us profusely with joyful expressions of love. It was magical.

Each day he explored, and started making relationships with Morpheus, Trinity and Niobe. The other cats were stand offish toward Ronnie at first but then they realized despite his large size, Ronnie is a big teddy bear.

We helped Ronnie discover playing and came to learn how much he loved lazers and pom poms!

Ronnie was prone to bite - a big reason he was unlikely to get adopted. This is because he gets overstimulated easily. We came to learn he was most likely to bite when he's really happy because he can't contain his intense feelings. In the first month he bit me and I needed antibiotics, but really, it wasn't a big deal. Animals need our love and patience. We worked with him to learn to bite more gently or lick instead.

Ronnie, during his time at Gananoque & District Humane Society, always wanted to go outside. We already took our cats out daily for a supervised outdoor trip, so when Ronnie realized he'd get to go out he was happy as pie! Now we usually do 2-3 trips away because Ronnie loves it do much and we want him to have an enriched life. We take him on walks in the woods and he's so well behaved, like a little dog-cat.

Now Ronnie is getting even more comfortable and craving more connection with us. He's started to get on the couch with us, and snuggling up your us.

I love Ronnie with all my heart ❤️

Adopting a cat in need of a loving home has been the best experience of my life. I encourage anyone able to consider giving a loving home to a cat in need; especially one unlikely to get adopted. You'll change a life, and enriched your own.

I invite you to donate to the Gananoque Humane society to help more cats like Ronnie get the love and support they need. Learn more.
