What kind of work do you do?
I'm a holistic health practitioner and wellness consultant. I help people who have chronic conditions make the permanent lifestyle changes that help them get well. I also help people who want to prevent illnesses take a more active role in prevention. My work includes doing a wellness evaluation, identifying and eliminating root causes, preparing personalized wellness protocols for each of my clients; recommending dietary and lifestyle changes, supplements, or herbs. I educate my clients on the benefits of other holistic or natural modalities that are available to them, if necessary I might refer them to a practitioner in their area. I help them learn how to self-advocate in their visits to their doctor's. Sometimes, I provide emotional coaching. My work is highly personalized and specific to each individual client.
What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?
I became an entrepreneur because I don't think there's anything like providing a valuable service to others. I believe it's extra special when you are living out your calling or purpose in life. There's something magical about being able to do something you know you were born to do because all your gifts, talents, abilities, experiences, heartbreaks, and everything in life come together in your soul's expression of it. It's more than a job. It is a part of your very being, so much that if you could not do it, I do believe you would simply cease to be. For me, helping people get well or stay well; teaching people to take better care of each other, our planet, and themselves is that thing. My journey into natural healing began many years ago when I was diagnosed with Bi-polar Disorder. At that time, I was placed on medication that had stolen my soul, not only did I lose my creative spark, I also was simply no longer me. Fortunately, I had a really good friend who was adamant about expressing her opinion that I did not need the medication. I mean she wanted me to get off. Well finally, during a treatment plan I expressed my desire to one day be off of the medication. I was told that I would never be able to stop taking the medication. I remember Dr. Myles Monroe once saying "You will never become who you should be until you get angry with who you are. You will never change what you tolerate." Well, I was angry. I was angry that this woman who had no idea who I was could look me square in my face and tell me what I was capable of. And so I did what anyone would do on a dare. I went home and immediately poured that medication down the drain. I never went to another appointment. I did start looking for alternative ways to deal with Bi-polar and that put me on the path that would eventually lead to four degrees, about 30 certifications, a healthier lifestyle and work that I love. Not only did I get off the medication, but I became a lifesaver in the process Disclaimer: Let me say here that I'm simply telling a part of my story as it happened, I'm in no way suggesting that anyone simply stops taking their medication. It is a matter that should always be discussed with your physician.
What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?
I think one of the biggest struggles is trying to figure out how to educate people on what my work actually is. And how it can benefit them. Most people have been so conditioned by the medical industry and BIG PHARMA to center their lives around illness rather than wellness. They have been trained by their doctors to think that symptoms are the problem and so they never look beyond managing symptoms to consider that they could be well altogether. There are a few good reasons for this, one most traditionally trained doctors don't know anything other than how to push pills. They receive very little training on nutrition or anything else. The pharmacy and food corporations work together to keep people addicted to foods that make them sick so they can buy pills to relieve the symptoms they experience on the way to the grave. They believe that the chronic illnesses they suffer from are just part of life, old age, genetics, or whatever. They never ever consider that there might be a root cause that a simple change in diet, exercise, environment, hell maybe even relationships could eliminate.
They are so conditioned to focus on illness and symptoms that they will ask me things like "What herb will get rid of this or that pain?" I'm always like well I don't know it depends on why you have the pain. My work is not so simple as taking out a prescription pad and writing a prescription for a pill for the 100th time everyday because I give each person that has that same symptom the same pill. For me, a symptom is just a clue to help me get down to the root cause so I can deal with that. 100 people could see me with the exact same symptoms and each get very different recommendations because they each are a unique individual with very different causes at the root of the symptoms.
I think of it like this, the person is standing on a nail and of course they have pain in their foot because they are standing on the nail. A doctor will give them a pill for the pain, but leave the nail. My job is to teach them how to get rid of the nail, and as a result the pain goes away on it's own. The frustration is trying to educate people on the profound difference between the two functions.
Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?
Yes, I think about quitting all the time. It's hard and lonely to build something from scratch. When I'm trying to figure out where my neat meal will come from or how the rent will get paid because I've not had any paying clients for some time. When I feel like everyone is judging me decision because my life doesn't look like their idea of success, I definitely thing about giving up. I think, it is human to do so. Building a business from the ground up is not for the faint of heart, especially when you consider that I launched right before the pandemic shut the world down. Why keeps me from quitting? Besides the fact, that I've put my all into building this wellness center. I've spent years of my life doing the research and developing the skills to do what I do. I've invested massive amounts of money into earning the degrees and certifications that qualify me to do this work. But more than that, I've watched people I love very much die... Let me repeat that they DIED from conditions that could have been with a few lifestyle changes. Everyday, I watch as friends and family slowly poison themselves to death. They take massive amounts of pills with terrible side effects to manage symptoms that will go away with some education. And they pass these unhealthy habits tight down to the next generation who will die even younger because they have a larger toxic burden than the previous generation. I don't give up because it mean I've given up on myself and them.
What have you learned since beginning?
The biggest lesson I learned is you have to believe in yourself more than you need other people to believe in you. No one is going to validate you. Your belief in yourself is what will carry you through the challenges you face. I've learned that the best thing you can do is mentally prepare yourself for the rejection and loneliness. It gets better because as you begin to shed relationships with people who are actually holding you back, you'll find them being replace with relationships with people who support, uplift and propel you forward. You start moving more toward your soul family. The thing is not to get bitter, over the years I've learned to quietly close the book on relationships with friends and family. The truth is that a lot of people just can't go where you are going.
What’s the best advice you’ve received?
Penny pinching and worrying about money all the time is the best way to stay broke.
What advice would you give someone just starting out?
No matter what never allow anyone to tell you where you are going, what you should want and who you are. Believe in yourself more than anything and always make investing in yourself a priority.
What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?
I most proud of making my business 100% remote and switching it to a monthly membership that is the same for everyone. I'm also proud of getting Miracles and Magic published.
Which book(s) would you recommend to help entrepreneurs with success and personal development?
Anything by Dr. Wayne Dyer or Robert Greene. I also love The Success Principles by Jack Canfield, The Richest Man in Babylon, by George S. Clason, The Measure of a Man by Sidney Poitier. Anything by Napoleon Hill of course. I could literally go on naming books to read forever. I think all books are sacred. But I think I'll stop here.
Do you have a routine that you attest to your success? If yes, what is it?
I don't know if it is a routine. I think it's more of a philosophy. I have a statement of purpose for my business that is quite lengthy but it lays out the principle and values that guides me in my business. I've been working on putting it into a nice cute little booklet that can be downloaded from the website but one of the biggest things is to always put people and purpose first. Yes, we all need money to survive and no one goes into business to not make money but, the truth is that if people are not first, you are in business for the wrong reason. If your purpose isn't a top priority you have no foundation to build on. People and Purpose have to be first.
How has social media played a factor in your success?
Since the pandemic started social media has become a huge part of my business. It is where I do the most interacting with people. I've always been someone that found it easy to engage with people in person. Now that it's hasn't been an option. Social media has become the primary way for me to engage with people. It is the best place for me to educate people about working with a Holistic Practitioner. I can easily explain why I choose to operate as a PMA, It is a great way to allow people to get to know you and share your business. That's how I'm using it right now. Interestingly, I just started a private Facebook group that I have some big plans for. I'm excited about that journey.
What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?
OMG, How much time do you have. The biggest one is not getting to know your audience. Jumping into peoples inboxes to pitch your business immediately after they accept your friend request. I will unfriend anyone that pitches me a business before they say hi. Groups that have rules that are so strict the people who are in the don't know how to post. Making money more important than people. I also believe that professionalism should be maintained between your profile, page, groups. and they best way to do things is to just be yourself and act like a real human being instead of putting on a show.
What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?
The business tool that has helped me the most would have to be blogging, guest articles, and podcast interviews. Really, content creation and a tight content calendar which I must admit I've let myself fall off and get side tracked from but when I'm keeping a consistent content schedule I tend to see a bit more growth that when I'm randomly posting whatever comes to mind
Is there something you wish everyone knew?
I wish everyone know how hard entrepreneurs work and how lonely that work can be. In fact, I just wish people knew to check on other people period.
What’s coming up for you in the next few months?
I'm working on a second book that will be coming out soon. I'm also preparing to officially launch the Healing Wisdom YouTube Channel and working on a merchandise line, you know t-shirts, mugs, and things like that.
What has being successful taught you?
Humility and Gratitude
What are some fun facts about you?
I love nature and animals, my favorite color is purple, I've had a crush on the same boy since I was 12.
