Hi, I’m Lieah – co-founder of Wellness by Davlie, where I help women simplify healthy living through organic wellness teas, holistic nutrition, and practical wellness education. I’m also the founder of Harrington Strategic Partners, where I bring over 20 years of experience in accounting and financial strategy to support service-based business owners in reaching their growth goals.

My journey into wellness started from personal experience – extreme burnout, struggles with weight gain, fatigue and long Covid – which turned my world upside down and made me question everything I thought I knew about health and wellness. Through that journey, I found a new passion and purpose to help other women find balance between thriving in business and taking care of their health.

What kind of work do you do?

Through Harrington Strategic Partners, I work with women business owners to help them manage growth, cash flow and financial strategy.

Through Wellness by Davlie, I help women navigate health and wellness challenges after 35 so they can feel healthy, happy, and strong.

What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?

I never thought I’d own one company, let alone two! I started Harrington because I was burned out and broken from my accounting career in the start up world. I needed a change of pace and some control over my life.

Then I started experiencing some health issues and ultimately, added long Covid to the list and went down the rabbit hole of health and wellness. I was horrified by some of the things I learned, and through beginning to heal myself, decided to get a certification in nutrition and start Wellness by Davlie to share what I’d learned with other women struggling to manage life’s curve balls.

What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?

I had to learn everything from scratch when I launched Harrington, so I was way ahead of the game when I launched Davlie. The technical side wasn’t that hard, just time consuming, thanks to my accounting brain, but the marketing side was really hard for me. Learning how to break through the noise and capture people’s attention was a nightmare in the beginning.

Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?

I thought about closing Harrington several times. I went through periods where I just wasn’t feeling it, but every time I seriously considered it, I thought about what my life used to be like working for someone else, and that was enough to keep going for me. I think I’ve found a good balance now that Davlie has launched. I get to exercise my logical side through Harrington and have fun making herbal teas and sharing what I’ve learned about wellness through Davlie.

What have you learned since beginning?

I’m a hell of a lot stronger than I ever gave myself credit for. I was bullied as a child. I had little confidence and never thought I’d achieve anything like I have so far. I’m an introvert by nature, so speaking in front of others, getting on video, putting myself out there – it’s all really hard for me, but I do it anyway. I’m proud of the progress I’ve made!

What’s the best advice you’ve received?

Done is better than perfect. This is a hard one coming from the accounting world! I had to learn to take the site live, launch an offer, and revise on the go. It’s never going to be perfect, but you can’t refine it if no one sees it and gives you feedback.

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

I think there’s a lot of pressure out there to have everything in place on Day 1. It’s easy to compare ourselves to others online in our industries. What we forget is they all started at zero just like us. You don’t need all the fancy tools to get started. Most of them won’t help you then anyway. Get really clear on how you help your customers, how you want to meet and nurture them, and know your numbers – budget, revenue, costs, and cash flow. You can build from there as you start earning revenue and get feedback so you can get even better at what you do.

What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?

When I finally left my last job, I left behind an amazing team. I stayed a lot longer than I should have for them. I was so worried about what would happen to them when I was gone. Only one is still there and she’s doing an amazing job. The others have all moved on to bigger and better roles and are growing their careers. I feel so blessed to have been a part of their journey and challenge them to go beyond their perceived limits to go after what they wanted!

Which book(s) would you recommend to help entrepreneurs with success and personal development?

Getting Things Done by David Allen – if you struggle getting organized and keeping up with your endless list of projects and tasks, read this book!

Profit First by Mike Michalowicz – a great start for new business owners without financial experience.

Ikigai and the sequel, The Ikigai Journey by Hector Garcia & Francesc Miralles – if you’re struggling with competing priorities of life, work, responsibility and happiness – discovering your ikigai can bring your life into alignment.

Do you have a routine that you attest to your success? If yes, what is it?

I run two businesses and have a very full personal and social life. There’s no way I could keep up with everything if I didn’t write everything down – physical or digital, I use both – appointments go in the calendar immediately, task lists are updated, random ideas are jotted down so I don’t forget them. I review on Sundays for the next week and prioritize what absolutely has to get done. The rest gets deleted or rescheduled as appropriate so I don’t overwhelm myself.

How has social media played a factor in your success?

Most of my business has come through traditional marketing and networking so far. Davlie is still very new and I expect social media will have more of an impact there, but connecting online with business owners needing accounting services was very difficult. I was an unknown, reaching out in cyber space. A personal recommendation just works better.

What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?

Spamming. Reaching out with canned messages without even researching. I can’t tell you how many people contact me on LinkedIn or send me an email wanting to know if I want to outsource my bookkeeping. It’s literally on my website that Harrington does bookkeeping!

What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?

I’m a heavy Microsoft user. I use the Outlook Calendar, Planner & Teams to bring order to my life. Everything syncs to Outlook, so I only have to look in one place. It’s all color coded so I can glance at my calendar and know what mindset I need to be in. It’s essential for me to function!

Is there something you wish everyone knew?

Most of the women I work with are business owners. And many of them had a fear of their financials when I met them. You can’t be successful in business – or maintain your health – if you’re afraid of your finances and let them become the boogeyman under the bed. There’s not much difference from a stress perspective whether you’re worried about your personal or business finances, or both. That worry is going to grow and manifest in weird ways in your life. Sit down with someone who you trust to help you get things under control so you feel in control.

What’s coming up for you in the next few months?

I’m working on some big items for Davlie:

-          Monthly functional wellness programs – you choose your health track and tools (including delicious teas) are delivered every month to help you on your journey

-          Women’s Holistic Wellness Beyond 35 podcast launching soon!

What has being successful taught you?

Flexibility is key. I used to get so stuck on an idea or a chosen path and I couldn’t let go. Sometimes, stuff just doesn’t work! It sounds like a great idea or worked for someone else, but it’s ok – and necessary! – to analyze performance and make adjustments.

What are some fun facts about you?

My brother and I built a custom 600HP 1979 Chevrolet Camaro together. He did most of the work because that’s his specialty, but it was fun working on the project together and now I have a badass car!

I worked in a used bookstore for several years and had a collection of almost 2000 books. I’ve since donated most of them, but I still love to read. These days, I mostly listen to audiobooks since life is so busy.

I wish the fashion from the 50s and 60s would come back in style. Those ladies knew how to dress!
