Meet Jeannine Betts... Canadian Multi-Passionate Entrepreneurial Rock-Star!

entrepreneur jeannine betts mlm sales success story Sep 23, 2019

About Jeannine Betts:

Born and raised in Edmonton Alberta Canada and living in Montreal for the past 5 years. Married for 12 years.

The following is our interview, my questions in BOLD and her answers to follow.

What kind of work do you do?

By day I sell human resources software to companies across Canada, by night I build my empire in marketing. I focus on helping women escape their corporate job and learn how to build a business in passive income so they can create a legacy through social impact.

What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?

I had my own tutoring services in University and loved how I could have real freedom. I got to choose my clients, my fee and my services. It was very liberating.

What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?

Myself. Lol I was my biggest blocker. All those limiting beliefs we roll our eyes at is what the little voice in the back of my head was telling me “you aren’t worthy Jeannine. You aren’t good enough. You are destined to be broke so why bother?” I felt sorry for myself for a long time and decided to let life pass me by. I stopped trying to figure out a way to be an entrepreneur for several years. It just lie there dormant, waiting.

Was there a time you thought about giving up?

Several times and I did give up and certain points in my life. I kept hearing my parents voice in my head “get a good job, a steady paycheck, put 10% away and retire when you are 65”. Great advice that I never followed. I had a "spend all my money mentality" since I can remember and that permeated how I lived, what I ate, what I bought. I was feeling so sorry for myself for years. This self pity turned into overeating, watching lots of TV and not doing anything for myself. While I had a job that was paying me well, I never implemented healthy habits around my relationship with money. The rejection I faced in the early part of my entrepreneurial journey was tough and I was desperate to just make money. I didn't care what it was I just wanted a paycheck. This desperation was rooted in my poor money managment skills. The people I tried to sell to could see it from a mile away. When I didn’t make any sales my attitude was to throw my hands up in the air and state “why do I even bother, this doesn’t even work!”

What kept you from quitting?

I did quit for a long time, but my desire to be an entrepreneur never went away. I realized as long as I surrounded myself with the same type of people, who were entrepreneurs and understood what I was going through, I could have a real support system. Also, learning and improving my skills and attitude has helped me to continue moving forward.

What have you learned since beginning?

That if I’m just trying to make fast money I should go get a job. Being an entrepreneur is hard work and comes with great rewards but it’s not a get rich quick scheme.

What’s the best advice you’ve received?

From one of my mentors “Jeannine unless you are really willing to look in the mirror and decide you want to build a business online. There is nothing I can do to help you. I can’t motivate you. You need to motivate yourself.”

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Throw the calendar out the window and stop trying to measure everything in days, weeks and months when first starting. Learn to enjoy the process, acquire new skills and share what you learn. If you have the attitude of “I need to make 10,000 before december or we will lose the car” then I recommend getting a job. A job is fast money, being an entrepreneur is not.

What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?

Earning $10,000 in 2 weeks at Christmastime. It was surreal.

Is there a book you’d recommend to help with success and personal development?

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker (get the audible version too, it’s thought provoking and funny)

Do you have a routine that you attest to your success?

If yes, what is it? Being consistent in social media, in my facebook group and my podcast. Continuing to be vulnerable and share my journey with others.

How has social media played a factor in your success?

Facebook Live has allowed me to connect to a larger audience more quickly and I have been able to figure out what content my audience enjoys and what’s relevant to them.

What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?

People who spam their network/affiliate marketing link all over social media thinking this will result in sales. There is such a lack of education out there, it’s something I’m trying to change.

What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?

Trello, I love to organize my thoughts and content creation. It’s free and the layout is very simple.

Is there something you wish everyone knew?

Being attracted to every new course, or shiny object would cause me to not move forward in my business. Remembering execution is everything and that done is better than perfect.

What’s coming up for you in the next few months?

My plan is to replace my full time income from my day job and maintain that for 1 year. I am going to continue to share value and ideas on how to build an online business with my audience and help 100 women in 2019 to build passive income online.

What has being successful taught you?

If I don’t have the right mindset around my success I’ll sabotage it.

What are some fun facts about you?

I speak 6 languages; English, French, German, Spanish, American Sign Language, Quebec Sign Language. I have a 13 year old cat who is as spoiled as they come. I have run a half marathon.
