About Jani
Jani Clark lives in Texas with her 4 year old son. She's a Master of Social Work student, concentrating on trauma treatment, and runs her own business as a self-compassion coach, mindfulness teacher, tarot reader, reiki practitioner, and published author. In her spare time, you can find Jani reading, tie-dyeing, and spending quality time with family and friends.
What kind of work do you do?
I work with individuals who struggle with perfectionism, low self-esteem, depression, and anxiety, and teach them self-compassion skills to help cope with life's ups and downs. I also work with the Angelic realm during reiki sessions and provide intuitive guidance while reading tarot cards with clients.
You are a published author, tell us all about your book!
Becoming "Not You": How to unlock your highest potential, clean up your mind, and embrace your life is a spiritual self-help book that guides you through a powerful introduction into the mind and other lessons, such as loving-kindness and forgiveness, to help you move through heavy emotions and clear away the clutter that is blocking your abundance.
What inspired you to write it?
My relationship with my son's father inspired the actual creation, but I've had "become an author" on my bucket list since I can remember. My ex-husband is a Marine veteran, and our relationship has been extremely rocky. I also suffered from postpartum depression and suicidal ideation, yet also experienced parts of myself that were full of hope and faith, always looking for a way out of this mental prison. I began a life coaching certification program called Awakened Academy around the time my son turned one, and it opened my eyes wide to the wonders of our world. With my background already in social work and psychology, this program, along with other spiritual teachers, plus my life experiences put me into action mode. Once I sat down and focused, I wrote and published the book in less than a week.
What did you enjoy most about the writing process?
Looking back, my favorite part has to be the cleansing process that I did prior to finally sitting down to write it. I did what I call a "Heart and Brain Drain" where I wrote a list of what was distracting me at the time. I crossed off items that I had no control over and I prioritized the items that I could get done. Then, when I sat down and began writing, I asked God/Higher Power and my team of Archangels and Angelic guides to show me the way. That was a pretty powerful experience, too!
What was the most exciting moment after it was published?
The feedback I received from my readers and the momentum that inspired me to create a workshop called "First Time Authors" to help other people with the same bucket list item.
What do you hope readers will takeaway?
My intention while writing it was to make it easy to follow, quick to finish (it's only 70-something pages long), and full of powerful introductory lessons to inspire hope and healing.
What inspired you to get started as an entrepreneur?
My soul's blueprint! Meaning, I am wired for freedom. I also highly dislike being told what I can and cannot do. I've healed many of these "limiting beliefs" and "upper limit problems" in order to create a life and business based on my terms so I can lead, teach, and serve from my passionate heart and awakened mind.
What was your biggest struggle to get things going for your online business?
Old, outdated stories I kept telling myself based on what I learned and witnessed growing up (plus karma -- lessons not yet learned and mastered -- from my past lives). I can't say I don't struggle anymore, because I certainly still do at times. We're all a work in progress... that's why we came here. I'm a full believer in reincarnation and choosing our experiences as part of the Higher Divine Plan. Everything is connected. And it ALL serves a purpose. All emotions and thoughts hold a special message, if you listen closely enough.
Was there a time you thought about giving up? What kept you from quitting?
Oh yes, and I did put everything on "pause" a couple times and got a "real job"... Both situations ended roughly the same way: my boss let me go because of xyz reasons. I was never a "bad" employee, but they could always sense that my heart and head were never quite present.
What have you learned since beginning?
SOOOO much about myself and human existence. Becoming an entrepreneur has been the reason I have healed much of my own karma, along with generational patterns that I refuse to pass down to my son and any future children. I do this work for myself (because I unconditionally love myself now through this healing work) but most importantly, I do it for the world, for humanity.
What’s the best advice you’ve received?
Everything is connected and everything you experience has a deeper meaning -- every animal that crosses your path, every interaction you encounter, every thought, feeling, and belief has a message for you.
What advice would you give someone just starting out?
Observe the "you" inside and ask WAAAAY more questions, especially "Why?"
What’s the professional win you’re most proud of?
Publishing Becoming "Not You"!!!
Is there a book you’d recommend to help with success and personal development?
Self-Compassion by Kristin Neff
Do you have a routine that you attest to your success? If yes, what is it?
A daily mindfulness practice. It looks different every day depending on my needs -- some days it's about moving my body through yoga or dance, other days it's about sitting quietly with my thoughts and feelings through self-compassion, forgiveness, or metta (loving-kindness). Some days I just want to sit in the shower and let the water flow over me. I ask the question "What do I need?" and I listen.
How has social media played a factor in your success?
My audience and clients come from all over the world! That is so cool!
What are the biggest social media mistakes you see commonly made?
With current events, I see a lot of aggression and hate going around between people with opposing viewpoints. It's highly disheartening. Ranting on social media is also a big no-no for me. (Yet, I used to do it so no judgment!! lol)
What is the business tool that’s been most helpful?
Reading literature and applying what I've learned!
Is there something you wish everyone knew?
All the lessons shared in my book!
What’s coming up for you in the next few months?
First off, March 18-21, I will be participating in an online fair and market event as a tarot reader, reiki practitioner, as well as hosting Livestreams on the topic of self-compassion. Secondly, since I'm currently in my last semester of my social work graduate program, I have been primarily focusing on my internship and classes, thus I have not been focusing much on my coaching business. However, I've been working with some brilliant minds through my field placement, creating powerful, life changing programs that I plan on tweeking and offering to my coaching clients and students. I have also been inspired to upgrade the workshop I mentioned earlier called "First Time Author" so be on the lookout for that, too!
What has being successful taught you?
To me, success is a mindset. It is also about developing a new perspective around "failure" and refocusing on your reason Why.
What are some fun facts about you?
I like to wear wigs on Livestreams and different colored glasses (thank you Zenni!) based on my mood/clothing choice. I also regularly find heart-shaped things and have become known for this on social media so many people tag me in posts or share with me heart-shaped things they've found. I LOVE when this happens. <3
