What Happened When my Husband and I Tried Goodfood Box Deliveries...

These food box subscriptions have become all the rage lately.

As my husband has been taking over more of the cooking and does better with recipes to follow, this seemed like it might be a good fit for us. After coming across a coupon my husband and I decided to give it a try.

We ordered our box and got the confirmation date for the next week when it would arrive.

The day came and... it didn't come.

I contacted customer service and they informed us of an issue with the truck, a reschedule for the next day and gave us a credit toward our next order. While not the best first impression, it was quickly dealt with the the extra credit made the hiccup a non-issue.

The next day the box arrived in the afternoon. The meals all came pre-portioned and pre-packaged in a lined cooler box with ice packs.

While it seemed there's a lot of packaging waste the majority is recyclable.

The ice packs are 99% biodegradable too.

The recipe cards came beautifully printed with instructions accompanied by images of the major steps.

I put the meals away and then that evening we picked our first recipe to try would be the gyoza.

My husband laid out the ingredients, grabbed the recipe card, and got to work.

The ingredients were all very fresh.

Overall, he found it simple to follow. One of the sauces and one of the herb packets were left unlabeled, which he found frustrating.

The recipe said it was a 1 hour from start to finish process, and it was fairly accurate.

The finished product came out just like it looked on the menu.

Quite delicious, and prompted my husband to actually eat tofu for the first time - and hey, he liked it!

The meal was delicious and I'm excited to try another tonight. They gave an overabundance in ingredients so it made more than 2 plates.

Is it worth the $9+ regular cost per meal per person?

For the time saved, for us, yes we find the service helpful. We already order our regular grocery haul and this extra option takes the time out of meal planning for us. And since we find the portions large, it makes more than 1 plate for us.

If you want to give it a try, here's a $40 off your first order coupon:
